General Position Description

Participate in teaching Paramedic and EMT theory and clinical practice in EMS Education curriculum. Plan, supervise, and evaluate student clinical experiences in assigned health care facilities. Responsible for didactic and clinical instruction. Must be able to travel to clinical affiliates. This EMS Education program prepares competent EMTs and Paramedics to give patient-centered care in pre-hospital, hospital, and other health agencies. May include evening, weekend and off-campus classes; participation in the mentor/mentee program; maintaining office hours; participating in college committees; facilitating community awareness of the program; participating in professional development; advising students. Ensures that all program staff reflect quality and professionalism in program, college and community interactions. Position receives general direction from the Director, Emergency Services Education and exercises supervision over full-time, part-time, and continuing education EMS/Paramedicine faculty and support staff.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Education: Bachelor's degree in Paramedicine or related field from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Have prehospital emergency care experience and demonstrate clinical competence as a generalist in prehospital emergency care. Applicants must have a minimum of two years EMS Education teaching or training experience.

Special Requirements: Must be a LP (Licensed Paramedic), or have the ability to obtain within first 90 days of employment.
Must possess, or have the ability to obtain, a Texas Paramedic certification within first 90 days of employment.

Preferred Requirements

Experience: At least 2 years of previous experience teaching Paramedic and EMT coursework in a college-based EMS Education program.

Ability to: (7) represent interests, needs, and perceptions of the program; (8) develop curriculum; (9) assist in the implementation of faculty evaluation and development; (10) perform tasks described in the student advisement policy; (11) maintain custody of college property, and notify division chair in case of loss, damage, or malfunction; (12) information director of developments in program disciplines; (13) promote and facilitate community awareness of programs and activities; (14) maintain relationships with those contacted in the course of work, including local schools, busineses, and other agencies; (15) support and participate in college activities; (16) communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; (17) perform other duties as assisgned.

Working Conditions

Physical Effort: Sedentary: Desk work; occasional field trips e.g. for college or program activities. Insignificant effort other than normal movement. Work Environment: Minimal Hazard/Exposure: Standard office setting. At least minimal environmental controls to assure health and comfort.
