General Position Description

Repair and maintenance of ranch grounds and facilities. Receives direction from the Ranch Supervisor to prioritize duties. Supports the day-to-day operation of all ranch based departments: Veterinary Technology, Ag Science, and Equine Programs. Assist in the planning and scheduling of daily job tasks. Receives general direction from the Ranch Supervisor and exercises no supervision. Note: This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Education: Some specialized technical training is required beyond the equivalent of the 12th grade. Additional training is typically vocational in nature or job-related college-level coursework.
Special Requirements: Must have and maintain a valid Driver's License and be insurable under the College's insurance policy.

Preferred Requirements

Experience: Three years of farm/ranch experience. Three years of grounds maintenance experience including safe use of equipment maintenance and repair. Be familiar with HVAC, electrical, plumbing and construction techniques.

Selection Criteria

Knowledge of: (1) Vehicle and equipment operation, maintenance and repair; (2) general safety procedures while operating farm and lawn equipment; (3) farm and ranch pasture management, a current Texas Herbicide License is preferred; (4) Basic construction techniques for all types of fencing and livestock shelters. Skills in: (5) Carpentry, basic plumbing, basic electrical, metal work (welding, use of cutting torch); (6) weed and brush control in hay and grazing pastures; (7) general lawn maintenance including mowing, weed eating, and debris removal (8) understand and follow safe trailer towing and loading practices. Ability to: (9) Work independently without constant or direct supervision; (10) identify repair or maintenance needs on facilities or equipment; (11) safely operate power tools using proper personal protection equipment; (12) shows initiative to be productive without being assigned specific tasks; (13) demonstrates the ability to be a "self-starter"; (14) able to communicate as well as receive verbal direction; (15) willingness to work together as a team and request assistance when needed.

Working Conditions

Exertive: Significant exertion on a daily basis. Awkward postures and work positions; sustained activities require strength (e.g. using tools).Frequent moderate lifting (30-60 lbs.). Continual exposure or recurring risk: At least half of each week requires exposure to sensory extremes. Several times weekly, exposure to chance of injury or loss of life, requires additional safety precautions.
