Laboratory TA

Job Description:

In addition to the duties of the Nursing laboratory Assistant, the following duties/ responsibilities are performed which require knowledge and experience across all four disciplines.

Reports to: Laboratory Coordinator and Chairperson of Nursing

Subordinate staff: None

Internal Contacts: Nursing Laboratory Coordinator, Laboratory Assistants, Nursing faculty & Nursing Department staff.

External Contacts: College support staff, salespersons, representatives and supply company staff.


Department Support: The Learning Center TA faculty is responsible for understanding all aspects of the program, assisting in lab preparation. Assists with scheduling, preparing, and demonstrating nursing skills for the purpose of independent study. Assists individual students to correct, develop, and/or reinforce nursing skills. Maintains knowledge of OSHA requirements and providing safety measures for student practice. Assist students in the computer lab in utilizing the computers and programs. Prepares equipment for and cleans lab classes, clinical evaluations by classroom faculty, advanced standing evaluations, and practice. It requires someone that teaches students how to utilize the department resources by providing low fidelity mannequins, programs that reinforces current practice modalities.



Qualifications:BSN degree in Nursing, current, unrestricted, New York State License to practice as a Registered Nurse, and three (3) years recent clinical experience with strong medical-surgical background. A second discipline in parent/child nursing or psychiatric nursing and ADN teaching experience is preferred.
