Duties

The ADP Advisor is responsible for ensuring Adult Degree Program (ADP) students receive the necessary assistance and information to become a successful matriculated student. The Advisor will be responsible for advising the student to ensure that general education requirements and pre-professional requirements are completed. In addition, they will continue to work with each student throughout their degree plan as they fulfill the requirements for the major. This position will have flexible hours to include nights and weekends with some travel.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Represent the University & ADP at Career Fairs and other recruiting events.
• Must attend transfer programs, recruiting events and make market visits as directed.
• Actively seek recruiting opportunities with business and industry partners.
• Advise students ensuring that all general education and pre-professional requirements are completed; continue advising students through completion of the program.
• Communicate with ADP students on regular basis and maintain communication log tracking methods of contact with each student.
• Assist prospective ADP students with information about admissions criteria, academic programs, financial aid programs and learning resources available at Athens State University.
• Work with ADP Director to develop outreach activities aimed at promoting degree completion.
• Advise students on various means of documenting non-traditional credit and assist/guide students through the appropriate process(es)
• Be flexible in advising (appointments, walk-ins, telephone, facsimile and email)
• Work with Director to establish recruitment goals and retention goals, as well as annual assessments with specific action plans developed to improve results.
• Collect data on students, recruitment and retention; analyze data, and assist in preparation of necessary reports.
• Maintain security of confidential information, files and documents.
• Comply with all university policies.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

• Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution required

• One to three years’ experience in advising students at the postsecondary level
• Ability to put students at ease and create a welcoming low-stress advising environment
• In-depth experience in various computer applications; Banner experience preferred
• Proven ability to learn and retain knowledge of various, and sometimes complex, policies, procedures and educational processes
• Excellent customer service skills
• Must be willing and able to travel by auto to perform university business
• Must be eligible to meet and maintain auto insurance requirements of the university
• Effective oral and written communication
• Ability to work independently and maintain effective working relationships with others
• Knowledge of university’s transcript evaluation process and registration procedures
• Must be proactive and a problem solver
• Possess a strong sense of customer service
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Ability to react to change productively
• Flexibility in accomplishing multiple tasks

Salary Schedule

Salary band: P20, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Located in historic Athens, Alabama, Athens State University offers junior and senior-level coursework to community college graduates and transfer students holding sufficient credits from other institutions. Presently, over 3,100 students have selected Athens State because of its neighborly environment where 50 majors and degree programs are offered, with courses taught by a supportive and exceptional faculty. Approximately 80% of the students are enrolled in at least one online course. The typical student is a working adult who commutes. Recently, the University was featured in the 2015 Best Value Online College Rankings by OnlineU.org for four online programs including computer science, accounting, education and human resources. The University offers undergraduate degree programs in Liberal Arts, Teacher Preparation, and Business. The University employs more than 350 full and part-time employees with approximately 90 full-time faculty members in three colleges: College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business, and College of Education.
