Position Description:
Under the general direction of the associate director, the Application and Database Security Analyst designs, develops, maintains, and improves essential applications and databases for the department. Primary responsibilities also include ensuring the performance, integrity, and security of the systems on which these applications and databases run, as well as improving them by integrating new technologies, platforms, and software. At any given time, the incumbent may need to work on several ongoing projects simultaneously. Some projects will be small and internal while others will be extremely complex and involve multiple external departments and organizations. The incumbent may be required to work with technical staff in internal and external departments and organizations as a member of project teams to meet goals and deadlines.
Additional duties include, but are not limited to, assisting in supervising a team of part-time staff (student developers) and serving as backup to various members of the department for operational needs (server security/clustering/virtualization and systems backup/maintenance).

In the 2007 edition of U.S. News and World Report, UCLA Medical Center was ranked best in the West, as well as one of the top 3 hospitals in the United States alongside Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Johns Hopkins Hospital. In 15 of the 16 medical specialty areas examined, UCLA Medical Center ranked in the top 20.
