Assistant Director for Experiential Learning

One year term-limited position, beginning July 1, 2019


The Assistant Director for Experiential Learning position exists to build capacity around programmatic areas of growth in Career Services at Princeton. This position works closely with both the Alumni Engagement and Experiential Learning team and with Graduate Student Career Advising, and reports to the Senior Associate Director of Alumni Engagement and Experiential Learning. This person plays a generalist role helping to build programming and resources to support key office initiatives,with special attention to managing alumni data and coordinating outreach to recruit alumni participation in programs and events. This position provides programmatic support for a variety of programs, including the Princeternship program, site visits, and treks, managing many of the administrative details of the programs. A primary area of focus will be on developing and implementing a variety of programs to engage and steward alumni volunteers. This position will also support departmental programs and resources for graduate student career development.


Program Development, Implementation, and Delivery (75%)

● Assist in developing and managing a wide range of innovative programs and resources intended to promote deeper connections between Princeton alumni and students

● Develop and implement systems for acknowledging and stewarding alumni volunteers

● Help in developing resources to support student learning in all experiential programming

● Expand alumni engagement programming to ensure specific focus on the graduate student population

● Support other student-alumni networking programs


Direct Student Service (15%)

● Meet individually or in groups with students to provide coaching and advising to help students clarify values, interests, skills, and strengths

● Assist students with the development of action plans and follow-up strategy


Reporting and Data Management (10%)

● Track data on alumni volunteers and ensure consistent and timely sharing of alumni information with colleagues across campus ● Track budget, assessment and outcomes reporting for areas of programmatic oversight

● Use data to drive decision-making with an eye toward continuous improvement




● Experience using systems/technology to track alumni/volunteer engagement

● Strong attention to detail and experience managing complex and nuanced programs

● Proven track record in delivering programs to diverse student audiences

● Exceptional organizational, leadership, and communication skills

● Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build effective relationships with diverse stakeholders

● Comfort with change, ambiguity, and risk in a fast-paced environment

● 1-3 years related experience working with undergraduate and graduate student populations

● Experience in working with and supporting underrepresented populations, and deep commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion goals

● Experience engaging and stewarding volunteers preferred

● Interest in providing group and individual career coaching and advising to students

● Bachelor's degree required, Master’s degree in a related field preferred
