The primary purpose of this position is to provide web development design and programming expertise for a variety of research projects at UNC’s Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute. The ideal candidate is exceptionally customer-focused and excited by the potential of supporting the web development needs of one of the largest research institutes at UNC. This position serves as web developer for any of FPG’s 60+ major projects and the FPG website including an upcoming redesign of the main institute website. The ideal candidate should be able to work independently with minimal supervision and efficiently manage their work projects and processes.

Educational Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or a closely related degree from an appropriately accredited institution.

Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate will possess the following:
-Extensive experience with front-end technologies, including HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript.
-Experience building, deploying, and updating web content in WordPress or similar CMS.
-Understanding of the entire web development process, including design, development and deployment.
-Experience developing custom themes for WordPress or similar CMS.
-Knowledge of UX/UI design best practices and responsive/mobile design.
-Strong understanding of accessibility standards and ability to ensure web products adhere to them.
-Willingness to learn new systems and technologies.
-Strong organizational skills to juggle projects and meet deadlines.

Preferred experience:
-Graphic design experience desirable.
-Experience with Drupal CMS.
-Familiarity with JS frameworks.
-PHP programming experience, including experience developing custom WordPress plugins.
-Comfortable working in LAMP stack and familiarity with basic server administration.
