The responsibilities of this position will involve the performance of all daily laboratory processing and analysis tasks, including maintaining a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for biospecimen across multiple projects and using LIMS to identify and prepare samples for testing by collaborators. Specific processing tasks include DNA and RNA extraction from human biospecimens (whole blood and saliva). Performing quantity and quality assessments of the extracted nucleic acids using Nanodrop or Dropsense is also required. Specific processing tasks will also include elution of blood spots and preparation of aliquots from stored human biospecimen (whole blood, urine, saliva). All tasks must be performed successfully in a Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) laboratory environment where constant time constraints are in place and tight deadlines must be met.

Education and Experience

Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Essential Skills:
Highly detail oriented and willing to follow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) precisely; flexible to daily changes in work scope; and have the ability to work under demanding time constraints.

Preferred Education and Experience:
College degree and an additional one (plus) years of direct lab experience; advanced knowledge of molecular biology techniques; experience working with a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).

Special Physical and Mental Requirements

Ability to lift/move items weighing up to 50lbs with or without reasonable accommodations.
