About the College/Department

Sam M. Walton College of Business: The Sam M. Walton College of Business has more than 6,000 students. The Walton College has an innovative cross-functional business core program that focuses on business processes, and several new cross-disciplinary minors and concentrations. The University of Arkansas has a total enrollment of more than 27,000 students. Following a successful recent $1 billion capital campaign, the university is in the process to launching another such campaign. The Walton College has consistently been ranked among the nation’s top 25 public undergraduate business schools since 2005, according to U.S. News and World Report.

The Information Systems Department: The department has thirteen tenured or tenure-track faculty members, including five professors who hold positions with endowments, in addition to three clinical faculty members, a full-time executive in residence, and several instructors. The department has been ranked consistently in the top-5 among business schools for publication activity in top information systems journals. Faculty research interests include: technology adoption and impacts; big data and analytics; privacy, security, and ethics; IS strategy, investments and value; digital transformation and impact; social networks; information technology in healthcare; enterprise systems; software development, decision support; mobile computing; blockchain; e-commerce; and IT personnel, training and education. The Information Systems Department has an active research-oriented Ph.D. program, a Master of Information Systems program, Graduate Certificate, and a BSBA major in Information Systems. The department has a world-class Enterprise Systems Program that gives our students experience with industrial-strength technology systems, thanks to more than $170 Million in gifts from our technology platform partners- IBM, Microsoft, SAP and Teradata. The Sam M. Walton College of Business invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level to teach in the Information Systems department to begin August 2019. The Assistant Professor is expected conduct research suitable for publication in top tier journals and to teach three courses per year for the first three years (which could all be taught in one semester depending on the individual’s preference and departmental needs), and four classes each year thereafter. The courses taught could be a mix of graduate and undergraduate courses, and a mix of face-to-face and online courses, as needed. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience; benefits are competitive.   • Applicants must be Scholarly Academic per AACSB accreditation standards which includes completion of a doctorate in information systems or a closely related field, prior to the position start date, from a nationally or internationally accredited university
  • Candidates should demonstrate clear promise of research potential based on the quality of their research and their ability to publish in top-tier journals
  • Candidates should also demonstrate promise of such teaching excellence. Teaching a broad range of information systems course at various levels is important.
  • Some of the specialized areas in which our faculty members may be expected to teach include business analytics, enterprise resource planning, database, and blockchain enterprise systems
Preferred Qualifications
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have documented excellence in research and teaching
  • Special consideration will be given to prior experience and expertise in teaching courses focused on data, analytics, enterprise systems, and blockchain
  • Preferred candidates have a demonstrated record of or interest in publishing in leading information systems journals, such as MISQ, ISR, JMIS and JAIS
