Description of Department: The Accounting Finance & Law Department is part of the AACSB accredited SUNY Oswego School of Business. The School of Business offers undergraduate degrees in accounting, business administration, finance, human resource management, marketing, operations management, and risk management & insurance, two Master of Business Administration degrees, and several five year BS/MBA programs. School of Business students also have the option to minor in International Business, Entrepreneurship, or Business Analytics. Description of Responsibilities:
The Accounting Instructor will be expected to instruct undergraduate level accounting courses in the field of financial accounting, such as Principles of Accounting, Intermediate Accounting, and Advanced Accounting. Responsibilities include a commitment to student development and university service. In addition to the traditional teaching responsibilities, the Instructor is expected to interact closely with students outside the classroom. This will include advising individual students, sponsoring internships and graduate assistantships, and advising accounting student groups and organizations. The instructor's duties will also include managing and participating in professional and student events throughout the calendar year, managing and directing student officers, materially participating in all aspects of the organization, and could include attending conferences with students throughout the calendar year. In addition to student interaction, the Accounting Instructor will be required to materially participate in school committees.
Additional responsibilities and expectations will also include maintaining and participating in professional outreach to the community for the benefit of the institution. This will include interacting with recruiters of our students, providing significant participation to business professional associations (including the NYSSCPA) and participating in professional events that focus on the discipline. The Instructor is expected to materially participate and serve on at least one board of directors in the community and to maintain an active Certified Public Accountant license, which includes documented continuing professional education.
In addition, the Accounting Instructor will be expected to display a demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and scholarship, commitment to undergraduate and/or graduate education, and possess communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with an increasingly diverse array of students and colleagues.
- Master of Business Administration degree (with a concentration in accounting) or MS in accounting at time of application from an AACSB accredited institution
- Active Certified Public Accounting license
- Substantial work experience in the public accounting profession (big four preferred)
- Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in financial accounting
- Past experience advising student organization(s), sponsoring student internship work, and serving on academic committees and councils
- Strong communication skills,
- Professional certifications including CMA (Certified Management Accounting), CGMA (Chartered Global Management Accountant), etc.
- Thorough knowledge of current GAAP and income tax law and regulations
