General Summary

Coordinate, implement and consistently improve upon a comprehensive systematic NCAA compliance monitoring program to ensure policies, procedures and protocols of the Eastern Michigan University Office of Athletic Compliance are effectively ensuring control over the institution's Intercollegiate Athletics Program.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Have a comprehensive understanding of the Jump Forward software and NCAA Compliance Assistant software and their monitoring applications.

Coordinate the distribution and review of annual NCAA and Institutional Paperwork for student-athletes.

Coordinate monthly review of each team's recruiting practices, including, but not limited to: official and unofficial visits, off-campus contacts and evaluations, phone and electronic communications, complimentary admissions, etc.

Conduct formal pre-evaluations of initial academic and amateur standing upon request of recruiting coaches, and act as primary monitor of student-athlete progress toward qualifier standing and final amateur certification.

Coordinate the monitoring of student-athlete employment during both summer and academic year time periods.

In conjunction with the head of athletic equipment, coordinate the monitoring of equipment and apparel issuance and retrieval.

Coordinate the monitoring and certification of all student-athlete awards and award limitations.

Coordinate the monitoring of student-athlete automobile use.

Coordinate the monitoring of all institutional camps and clinics, and coaches and staff participating in non-institutional camps and clinics.

Coordinate the monitoring of complimentary admissions and discretionary ticketing for all current staff and student-athletes.

Coordinate the monitoring of student-athlete off-campus housing.

Coordinate the monitoring of playing and practice season declarations and adherence to countable athletically related activity rules and regulations.

Coordinate the review of all team travel.

Coordinate the review of annual institutional participation reports.

Coordinate the preparation of various reports regarding monitoring information as requested by the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance.

Coordinate the production of all athletic aid and roster renewal forms.

Coordinate the monitoring of all student-athlete summer and outside competition opportunities.

Coordinate all athletic department staff participation in the annual NCAA Certification paperwork.

Coordinate the practice eligibility process for all individuals involved in a team tryout.

Process all roster additions and deletions.

Assist with various tasks assigned by the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and an intimate knowledge of all NCAA Division I rules and regulations is required. A Law degree, or Master's degree in athletics administration, management or business is preferred.

A minimum of one year compliance-related experience working in a Division I athletic compliance office, or, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved is required.

Three or more years direct and demonstrable full-time experience in the implementation of a comprehensive Division I athletic compliance program is preferred.

Experience with NCAA Compliance Assistant internet (CAi), NCAA Academic Performance Program (APP), NCAA Legislative Services Database for the internet (LDSBi), recruiting/compliance software (preferably Jump Forward ), and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook) is required.

Outstanding writing, reasoning and critical thinking skills is required.

The ability to work independently and make continuous improvement upon current monitoring systems and job duties is required.

An interest, ability, and understanding of how to work collaboratively with Division I student-athletes and coaches is required.
