U of T’s Division of University Advancement is seeking a Director, Financial Services, in Advancement Services to oversee the Division’s financial activities, and manage crucial budget and financial management processes. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will work collaboratively with senior staff across the Division, review, develop and update policies and procedures for all aspects of financial activity, and make recommendations on budgets and long-range financial planning. Using your thorough understanding of the goals of the Division as well as your knowledge of the broad scope of activities within each portfolio, you will provide leadership in budget administration, financial management, procurement and administrative management.
You will consult with the senior leaders and liaise with Planning and Budget, Procurement Services and Financial Services in order to develop and maintain a complex budget model, lead the preparation of annual budgets, financial analysis, forecasts, reports and oversee all divisional accounting and payroll functions.
This mandate will be of interest to a finance professional who is both strategic and results-oriented, and brings no fewer than 7 years’ recent and related experience in a senior administrative role managing a complex organization in a large public sector, or preferably University environment. Such expertise will be supported by a university degree in a related field and a professional accounting designation – CPA (CA, CMA, CGA) – with appropriate registration in Ontario.
Together with demonstrated experience in budget modelling and forecasting, managing finances in a cost-recovery unit, and in redefining, reengineering and automating business processes, you possess demonstrated effectiveness in managing staff. Experience in managing a unionized environment would be preferred, and knowledge of labour relations, health and safety and other University policies and procedures would be highly desirable.
You possess excellent computer skills and working knowledge of accounting software and SAP, excellent communication and customer service skills, as well as strong inter-personal, decision-making, team management and leadership skills. Your ability to direct and apply guidelines, government legislation, procedures and policies is complemented by your ability to use tact, initiative and diplomacy to exercise a high level of discretion regarding confidential or sensitive matters. Excellent time management, organizational and planning skills, and service-oriented attitude round out your profile.
