Clinical Faculty & Site Director in Special Education: Regional Campus - Visalia

POSITION: Full-time, with faculty rank; non-continuing status track (non-tenure); clinical position; 11-month faculty appointment in the School of Education.

STARTING DATE:  July 1, 2019

BACKGROUND

The Special Education Division at Fresno Pacific University offers Preliminary Education Specialist credentials in Mild Moderate, Moderate/Severe, and Early Childhood Special Education.  Additionally, the program offers the Adapted Physical Education Added Authorization and a Master’s Degree in Special Education.  The program graduates are well prepared and highly desired in the educational community in California’s Central Valley.

ROLE

Assume leadership for all Special Education activities at the respective Regional Campus including but not limited to:

  • Ongoing professional development and participation in teacher preparation professional organizations, and agencies;
  • Maintain professional memberships and professional development;

General Responsibilities

  • Report directly to the Division Chair;
  • Work collaboratively under the guidance of Program Directors to provide and maintain alignment of policies, procedures, and programs;
  • Maintain an understanding of changes in state and federal legislation that impact the program; attend state conferences that update trends and pending legislation;
  • Teach courses and serve as a University Mentor within the Special Education Division;
  • Manage site budget;
  • Advise prospective and admitted students to Special Education programs;
  • Work alongside university personnel to recruit students to the program;
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Teacher Education at the Regional Campus;
  • Counsel students with issues or concerns;
  • Conduct student exit interviews;

Community Relationships

  • Chair Advisory Board;
  • Develop and sustain relationships with local schools and other educational agencies for the purpose of fostering high quality student teaching placements and building school partnerships;

In consultation with Division Chair and Program Directors

  • Recruit, support, onboard, provide professional development, and work with adjunct teaching faculty;
  • Provide preliminary approval for admission of students into program;
  • Assume final approval for practicum and internship placements;

In consultation with the Office of Clinical Practice

  • Recruit, support, and work with adjunct supervising faculty;
  • Work collaboratively to implement logistical systems regarding filed placement and supervision of students;

In consultation with the Assistant to the Dean for Assessment, Accreditation and Student Success

  • Troubleshoot issues related to student registration, student accounts, and financial aid;
  • Actively participate in assessment and accreditation efforts.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Master’s Degree in special education or related field;
  • California Education Specialist Credential, out of state credential considered;
  • Experience:
  • Minimum of 3 years of program specific special education classroom instruction, birth – age 22;
  • special education program leadership;
  • professional knowledge, skills, and disposition to serve the university and broader community;
  • Ability to work with students, staff, and faculty in a collegial environment;
  • Ability to teach and work with persons from diverse backgrounds;
  • Information-oriented computer skills;
  • Commitment to the Christian faith and the university’s mission of Christ-centered teaching and learning and involvement in a local church.

Preferred:

  • Terminal degree in special education or related field;
  • Understanding of issues pertaining to the relationship between special education services and the Christian faith;
  • Record or promise of scholarly achievement;
  • Successful experience working with adult students;
  • Successful recruitment and retention of students in educational programs.

COMPENSATION: Dependent on qualifications and experience, and paid out over 12 months. Full-time benefits include insurance (medical, vision, dental, LTD), retirement (TIAA-CREF), Section 125 options.
