About the Department of Nutrition

The Department of Nutrition within the School of Public Health and Health Sciences (SPHHS) applies nutritional science knowledge in the delivery of teaching excellence, research innovation, lab-based work and community engaged outreach. The department offers both in-person (MS, PhD) and online (MS, MPH) degrees and an undergraduate program, which includes an accredited Dietetics Track and a post-graduate Dietetic Internship program.

Job Description:

The Department of Nutrition seeks candidates for a part-time, non-tenure track, benefited Lecturer position to begin fall semester of 2019.

The appointee will hold a 50% FTE (20 hours per week) Lecturer position: 25% FTE (10 hours per week) as instructor of one Nutrition course and 25% FTE (10 hours per week) as Field Experience Coordinator. The appointee will be considered for merit increases on the basis of teaching and other assigned duties per the MSP contract.

Requirements:

  • Master of Science in Nutrition or BS in Nutrition and Masters in allied field.
  • At least one year of College-level teaching experience and one year of college level advising experience.

Additional Information:

Duties for field experience coordination include:

  • Contact and coordinate with professionals in the nutrition and health fields in Western Massachusetts about potential experiential opportunities for nutrition majors during fall and spring semesters.
  • Connect with other offices on campus, e.g. Pre-med/Pre-health Advising, Career Services, about field experience opportunities for nutrition majors.
  • Work with and train peer advisors to mentor nutrition majors around finding and acquiring field experiences relevant to their career goals.
  • Teach nutrition majors strategies for finding and acquiring field experiences relevant to their career goals via workshops and one-on-one guidance.
  • Instruct nutrition majors in researching summer field experience opportunities close to their homes.
  • Provide instruction to students on professional conduct when involved with the community and in field experience opportunities.
  • Maintain databases of organizations, institutions and business with contact information for students to use in finding field experiences.
  • Develop Guidelines and tips for nutrition majors to use in finding quality field experiences relevant to their career goals.
  • Communicate and act as liaison between department and Mt. Ida internship coordinator.

Salary:

Commensurate with University of Massachusetts Amherst lecturer salary scale.
