We are currently recruiting for a Senior Research Analyst or a Research Analyst, depending on the applicant’s qualifications

The AidData Senior Research Analyst provides a unique opportunity to work on cutting research with major policy stakeholders. The individual in this position will take the lead in scoping and producing analysis in coordination with the Program/Practice Manager, serving as the primary technical point of contact for methods and quality assurance on data products and analysis. As technical lead for their team’s practice area, they will contribute to new business development processes, serve as a technical expert to represent the unit’s and College’s work with external research and policy communities; and support the Director in identifying high-value lines of inquiry and data production needs to power future research.
To lead this line of scientific inquiry, this position will require significant independent judgment and discretion in the following areas: academic scholarship (leading the conceptualization of new research projects, preparing and executing analytical plans, and producing final research publications, in collaboration with external partners, think tanks, and funders); survey design (designing questionnaires for large scale biennial surveys and snap polls to collect data for analysis); and research methods/trainings (serving as lead methods expert for the Survey Practice sub-division, which includes providing training for other staff, liaising with researchers at external leading organizations and partners, and developing new methods for the research team).

Research Analyst
AidData is currently seeking Research Analysts to join a team of ~40 faculty and development professionals united by a shared interest in using more granular data to make international development finance more transparent, accountable, and effective. To this end, the individual in this position will conduct and support AidData’s ongoing research in several key focus areas, including but not limited to: open data / open government, impact evaluations, randomized control trials, spatial analysis, China and emerging donors, and the SDGs. Accepted candidates would play a critical role in collaborating with a full team of research faculty, policy analysts, data collectors and curators in studying the nature, distribution, and impact of some of development’s most pressing issues. This position is based at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Required Qualifications

Senior Research Analyst
• Advanced knowledge and degree in a relevant field of knowledge, such as economics, public policy, international development, public health, global health.
• Proficiency in one or more of the following packages: Stata, SAS, Excel, SQL, or R
• In-depth knowledge of issues related to international development policy and practice
• Experience dealing with researchers and the global development community
• Excellent analytical skills with ability to research complex issues, evaluate options, consider consequences and recommend solutions
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a demanding and complex work environment, carry out assignments in a timely manner, and adapt to changing situations and priorities
• Record of delivering high quality outputs for international development projects or programs
• Exceptional planning and organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines and minimal supervision
• Dedicated team player with track record of working collaboratively across institutional and/or disciplinary boundaries
• Excellent interpersonal skills, including tact and diplomacy
• Demonstrated ability to translate technical information into jargon-free prose
• Outstanding presentation, communication, and collaborative leadership skills
• Excellent command of the English language, written and spoken

Research Analyst

• Excellent analytical skills with ability to research complex issues, evaluate options, consider consequences and recommend solutions

Senior Research Analyst
• Experience in a bilateral or multilateral aid agency, non-governmental organization, think tank, or academic institution
• Demonstrated ability to develop strong monitoring and evaluation systems and design rigorous impact evaluations

Research Analyst
• Advanced degree in a relevant discipline, such as economics, public policy, international development, global health, environmental studies or an equivalent combination of education and experience at a level which equates to an advanced degree.
• Experience in a bilateral or multilateral aid agency, non-governmental organization, think tank, or academic institution
• In-depth knowledge of issues related to international development policy and practice
• Demonstrated ability to develop strong monitoring and evaluation systems and design rigorous impact evaluations
• Experience dealing with researchers and the global development community
• Record of delivering high quality outputs for international development projects or programs
