Position:
Towson University is inviting established scholars and clinicians, and promising faculty applicants for one clinical track, full time, 10-month position to serve as program coordinator at the University of Maryland at Hagerstown campus (USMH) and teach undergraduate nursing course content beginning August 2019.
Responsibilities:
1)Teaching - provide high quality instruction in a variety of undergraduate and/or graduate nursing courses, advise and mentor students as they matriculate through the program and prepare to enter the profession; 2) Scholarship - development/continuation of a focused area of scholarship that includes refereed publications, professional presentations, external funding, and involvement in scholarly projects with faculty and students; 3) Service - active service participation at the Department, College, University, Profession and community levels. All clinical track faculty are assigned an instructional workload of eight (8) course units per academic year. Coordinator duties usually include one unit of release per semester for program administration.
Program Coordinator responsibilities: Oversee day-to-day functioning of nursing program on the USMH campus including, but not limited to addressing student feedback, ensuring course coverage, clinical placement sites, and simulation activities; oversee quality of courses and student experiences on Hagerstown campus and provide feedback to the Chair; provide input into student schedules, course term file, and final exam schedule, in collaboration with Clinical Placement Coordinator (CPC), Undergraduate and DCI Coordinators, and Administrative Assistant; build and assess collaborative relationships with community and corporate partners; oversee administrative assistant’s responsibilities; act as a liaison with leadership on USMH campus; collaborate with leadership on the Towson main campus on academic program issues; attend administrative meetings related to the nursing program (Department, College, University, and external as appropriate)
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in nursing with expertise in a respective specialty area required; research or clinical doctorate preferred. Two years of recent experience in teaching and/or practice related to the candidate’s clinical specialty is preferred as well as experience in higher education administration. All candidates are expected to possess a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and advising. Licensure or eligibility for licensure in Maryland is required. Demonstrated success in working with diverse populations of students is also preferred. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. Academic rank as an Assistant, Associate or Full professor will be commensurate with qualification and university promotion and tenure criteria.
The Department:
The Department of Nursing is one of five departments in the College of Health Professions and CCNE accredited with approximately 425 undergraduate students. The Department offers master’s programs in nursing education and nursing administration. There are currently about 50 students enrolled in graduate studies. Post-baccalaureate/post-master’s certificates in nursing education are available. Student admission is highly competitive. The Department of Nursing also offers the baccalaureate degrees at the Western Maryland Hagerstown campus, a regional center within the University System of Maryland and Towson University Northeast campus, which is located in Bel Air, Maryland.
