Job Description Summary

The Content Coordinator is the University’s in-house journalist and will be responsible for helping to shape a content plan and calendar to cover campus events, historic university milestones, student and faculty research, personal profiles and other stories to help extend brand awareness and affinity, promote the University’s core messages and get people excited about STEM innovation.

Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in developing and implementing a content plan and calendar to cover campus events, historical milestones, student and faculty research and other key stories.
  • Build working relationships with students, faculty and staff and spend time on campus to identify the University’s best stories.
  • Create content for all university communications (newsletters, brochures, emails, student/faculty highlights, etc.)
  • Produce and edit written content for print and digital production to a wide variety of audiences including students, parents, faculty, staff, community members, legislators, donors, industry partners, media and other.
  • Assist the Digital Media Coordinator with video content development for distribution.
  • Pitch story ideas during weekly team meetings and help keep University Relations teammates informed of campus news and events.
  • Serve as the primary editor for content, as needed, including staff or faculty-produced articles, staff bios, special reports and applications.
  • Evaluate and edit content for the web with search engine optimization in minds.
  • Work collaboratively with University Relations team members on projects for special events and initiatives.
  • May also produce and/or edit multimedia content for other Marketing and Communications initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent writing and editing skills with an impeccable knowledge of grammar, punctuation and AP style
  • Excellent interview, research and storytelling skills
  • Understanding of Search Engine Optimization/Search Engine Marketing to expand the reach of content
  • Ability to effectively and professionally communicate with various audiences verbally and in writing
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail and deadlines
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced work environment
  • Strong knowledge, interest or enthusiasm for education and/or science and technology is a plus
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of common editing tools and processes like Microsoft Word’s track changes
  • Experience with Google Docs is a plus
  • Experience with digital/social media is a plus
  • Multimedia content experience (e.g., photography, basic videography, graphic design, etc.) is a plus
  • Experience with content management systems, particularly WordPress, is a plus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5 years’ experience as a writer and/or editor in a marketing, communications or journalistic role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or Journalism.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  •   Experience in higher education preferred.

REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND/OR OTHER SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS OF LAW:

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • This position requires a criminal background check, which may include a Level II screening as required by Florida Statute §435.04.
  • This position is subject to federal and state privacy regulations.

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE:       This position is salary exempt.  The normal work schedule is Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., however, occasional overtime (weekends and evenings) may be required.

TARGET HIRING SALARY:  $52,450, - $56,250, commensurate with experience.
