The Corcoran Department of History at the University of Virginia seeks a historian of the Ottoman Empire for a one-year salaried part-time appointment (renewable for up to one additional year) as an Academic General Faculty Member (Tenure-Ineligible) at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor rank, starting August 25, 2019, through May 24, 2021.
Period and specialization are open, however the applicant must be prepared to teach a two-semester introductory survey-course sequence on the history of the Middle East and North Africa, from late antiquity to the twentieth century, as well as courses in the applicant's area of specialization. The successful candidate will teach two courses per semester, one course of 30-60 students and one seminar-sized course of 12-15 students.
A Ph.D. in an appropriate field is required by the start date. To qualify for an appointment as Associate Professor, applicants must have a record of excellent teaching over a period of at least six years.
