The successful candidate will be an experienced special educator who has a passion for teaching and mentoring future special educators. We are seeking a colleague, with an earned doctorate in Special Education or related field, who also brings experience in working in middle grades and high school settings.

NCE offers several Master’s degree programs in Special Education – the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT), the Master of Education (MED), as well as an innovative B.A. Program. All of these programs provide the coursework required for the Illinois Learning Behavior Specialist I (LBSI), a non-categorical special education endorsement and professional educator license. NLU also offers LBSII endorsements and an excellent doctoral program (Ed.D.)—Disability and Equity in Education.

The ideal candidate will bring a passion for teaching graduate level courses using face-to-face, online, and blended formats; experience with technology to enhance student learning; an active commitment to diversity; an interest in and commitment to collaborative models of teacher preparation. Experience in preparing teacher candidates for edTPA and practicum/student teaching supervision highly desirable.

Candidates should possess broad-based skills in special education teacher preparation, and expertise in individualizing instruction and assessments for students with disabilities. Essential capabilities include teaching Middle and High school students with mild to significant disabilities, developed ability in instruction, curriculum design, differentiation, collaboration/co-teaching and transition planning.
