Position Summary

National Louis University’s Undergraduate College is seeking a full-time Assistant Professor of Career Development, beginning July 1, 2019, to our team.

Career readiness is an integral part of our undergraduate college program model and we require four career development courses to build the skills our students need to attain internships and strong first jobs. The Assistant Professor of Career Development would be responsible for teaching the career sequence of courses, which move students from career exploration through internship acquisition, and supporting curriculum design. This position is a 10-month, full-time non-tenure track faculty position with teaching and administrative responsibilities, and expected faculty appointment at Assistant rank. The position will be based in Chicago, and applicants must be willing to teach at other Chicago metropolitan area campuses and online, as needed.

You are: an experienced classroom educator with content knowledge of career development best practices, who is passionate about building students’ career skills and confidence. You have made equity and inclusion a priority in your work and believe that all students, when given the opportunity, can achieve success. You also have 3-5 years of applied career development experience through professional leadership roles and can apply current industry trends to classroom instructional practices.

You will: Teach and support the development and revision of courses in the Undergraduate College’s (UGC) Career Development program.
You will demonstrate your respect for education and the power that it holds. Each term, you will facilitate blended classes that utilize technology and data to drive instruction. You will work with a dedicated team of Student Coaches, Faculty, Data Analysts and UGC team members to determine how to personalize the learning experience for students in career development courses. In addition to teaching content, you will also encourage growth mindset, increase non-cognitive skill development and nurture academic confidence.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES
• Demonstrate excellence in teaching:
o Collaborate with faculty team to develop an effective student experience for students.
o Facilitate courses by delivering engaging instruction in a blended, flipped classroom environment.
o Empower students to develop competency by sharing a passion for career content and an urgency in the value of the skills being taught.
o Utilize technology-based teaching platforms to aid students in the development of competencies.
o Communicate professionally and relate well.
• Demonstrate, maintain, and continuously strengthen content expertise:
o Maintain current and active content knowledge in career development best practices.
o Possess appropriate expertise as demonstrated by appropriate credentials.
o Maintain current knowledge of field by engaging in professional development around career development and employment trends.
• Promote student success with a proactive, high expectations, high support approach:
o Demonstrate and share a passion for postsecondary success for diverse learners and for teaching.
o Demonstrate flexibility in delivery and work schedule to provide personalized student support (includes but is not limited to office hours).
• Engage in data-driven instruction and student support planning:
o Track student course data weekly in multiple university data systems as needed.
o Engage in regular data-driven Student Success Collaboration meetings with faculty, coaches and support specialists to report student progress and obstacles and to plan student support interventions.
o Engage in regular content area team meetings with peer faculty to review curriculum plans, determine implications of student data, and plan curriculum revisions.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of a Master’s Degree in a general education, business, or leadership field
Minimum of 3-5 years of leadership experience in a professional setting.
Demonstrated commitment to increasing professional opportunities for historically underrepresented college students and to building career skills that will increase professional access
SKILL QUALIFICATIONS
Experience and a passion for elevating and driving toward excellence in teaching in a higher education setting, particularly with diverse learners from underserved and under-represented populations.
Excellent facilitation and classroom management skills; ability to differentiate instruction and support based on student needs.
Technologically savvy, with experience working with different platforms and learning management systems.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Collaborative attitude and creative problem-solving skills.
Experience with digital tools for teaching, teaching in either online or blended/hybrid formats is required
Ability to consistently connect instruction to its real world relevance, tying in concepts and theories in the classroom to students’ current and future work experiences and highlighting immediate applicability.
Willing and able to use data to inform instruction.
