Overview

Princeton University is seeking an experienced video producer to tell compelling and visually rich stories about the University’s mission, impact and programs, and to showcase our faculty’s expertise in a range of topics related to societal challenges.

As part of the Office of Communications team and reporting to the Multimedia and Projects Editor, the video producer will have a hands-on role in producing videos, livestream broadcasts, podcasts, and other types of multimedia content. The video producer will work collaboratively with supervisors, peers, and campus partners on a mix of self-generated ideas and assigned work spanning a variety of styles and formats, often with tight deadlines. Most content will be aimed at external digital audiences on University channels.

We’re looking for a video producer who is skilled, curious, creative, energetic, precise, hard-working, organized, and able to work well with others. We’re also looking for someone who is committed to excellence in video production, is eager to develop new approaches, and seeks out new products and technologies so that we can continually improve our work.



Responsibilities

The video producer will:

-research and pitch original content ideas that meet the department's messaging goals and educate, entertain, or move audiences, and then execute those ideas through approval, planning, production, and post-production independently or in small teams. Collaborate with department and other campus staff on event coverage and other internal initiatives that require video, audio, or other multimedia, and then fulfill those requirements with high-quality work completed on time.

-devote time to professional development, including staying current with new equipment, new approaches, and trends in video in higher education and beyond.

-help with special projects and back up others in the department as needed. Other duties as assigned.



Qualifications

Essential qualifications:

-Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
-Minimum of 5 years experience working on deadline-oriented video productions, preferably in a journalism or public relations environment.
-Experience creating video concepts and interviewing.
-Video production and post-production skills, including knowledge of professional equipment, filming, lighting, audio recording, audio/music mixing, color correction, editing, and compression/encoding.
-Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud programs (Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop) or equivalent software.
- Experience shooting and editing video for use in social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and IGTV).
- Experience shooting livestream broadcasts and using broadcast hardware and software for live streaming.
-Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and successfully with limited supervision, working in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.
-Ability to organize scheduling and production.
-Excellent attention to detail.
-Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills in an environment with people from a variety of backgrounds.
-Must have a valid driver's license, have proof of insurance and comply with all University safe driving and parking procedures.
-Must be willing to work some nights, weekends and holidays.
-Must meet requirements for lifting/handling equipment, including: Stand or walk for 2-4 hours at one time, up to 6 hours per day. Sit for fewer than 4 hours during an 8-hour day. Lift or carry up to 25 pounds frequently (34-66% of the workday) and up to 50 pounds occasionally (less than 33% of the workday). Lift up to 50 pounds in a range of motion from floor to shoulder height. Push or pull with forces up to 35 pounds occasionally (less than 33% of the workday). Use hands for simple grasping, pushing, or pulling frequently (34-66% of the workday). Possess physical agility and full range of motion, and ability to maintain balance. Hold a camera and/or other relevant equipment to photograph multiple events per day. Sit at a computer for long periods of time while editing videos.
-Ability to distinguish colors accurately and be able to color correct photos and videos.

-Experience creating content about science and data
