Physical RequirementsThe essential functions for this position include sitting for extended periods of time while looking at computer screens; the conditions of work may involve exposure to communicable diseases and injury from intractable patients or sharp instruments.
ShiftMust be able to work three, 12-hour 7:00pm-7:00am night shifts per week; will also be required to work some weekends and holidays.
Job SummaryThe Cardiopulmonary Technician will primarily be responsible for the continuous monitoring and interpreting of cardiac physiological data, detecting and documenting any changes in heart rhythm and arrhythmias according to department standards, and reporting any problems to a registered nurse or physician. The CPT will immediately review and validate alarms to reduce “false alarms” and improve detection of actual adverse events by providing a consistent method for EKG monitoring and enhancing patient safety.
Additionally, the CPT will be responsible for maintaining equipment to ensure proper function, including the proper placement and function of all cables and monitors connected to a patient; must also have a working knowledge and understanding of all models of monitors utilized, be able to perform configuration on any specific monitor, replace defective equipment, report any equipment malfunctions to initiate repair, and maintain equipment inventory.
This position will serve as a resource to clinical areas as needed and the chosen candidate must maintain confidentially of patients, employees, and hospital-related activities.
The ideal candidate will have knowledge of normal heart rhythms and basic arrhythmias; strong organizational skills; the ability to communicate clearly and concisely; the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; and the ability to follow hospital and unit policies and procedures.
Does this position have supervisory responsibilities? No Preferred Education/Experience1-2 years of direct experience monitoring and interpreting cardiac physiological data preferred.

In fiscal year 2016, the University of Kentucky was awarded $316.5 million in external grants and contracts.
