Family Medicine is one of the founding departments of the Brody School of Medicine. Since its establishment in 1977, our department has earned a national reputation for developing innovative programs in education, research, and patient care. We remain committed to applying the principles of family medicine to contemporary practice and we are currently working on instituting the fundamentals of the patient-centered medical home in anticipation of national health care reform.
The Maternity and Women’s Health Fellowship is designed to develop teachers of women’s health, to provide fellows with the skills and knowledge to care for underserved women and to enhance the
academic and service excellence within the Department of Family Medicine. The fellowship has a strong emphasis in clinical service and productivity.
During the fellowship, participation in faculty development, acting as a junior faculty member, initiation of a research project, teaching residents and students on the Family Medicine Inpatient Service and
active care of pregnant and delivering patients is required. In addition to a core curriculum in women’s health, the schedule allows elective time to pursue areas of
The fellowship provides an exciting opportunity to train in primary care women’s health. This program offers a 1-year clinical fellowship.
The clinical curriculum includes training across the continuum of care, including ambulatory, acute, inpatient, maternity care, and procedural skills for career development.
The ECU Brody School of Medicine is affiliated with Vidant Medical Center. Vidant Medical Center is the flagship hospital for University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina and serves as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.Minimum Education/Experience
MD or DO degree from an appropriately accredited institution.License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation
NC Board Certified or Board Eligible in Family Medicine.
Completion of an Accredited US Residency Program.Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Applicants with an interest in developing their teaching and academic skills, in improving their maternity care skills, and serving underserved women are preferred.
Applicants with strong maternity care background and interest in strengthening their knowledge base of all aspects of women’s health care are preferred.Special Instructions to Applicant
