Stanford University is seeking a Clinical Division Manager 2 for its Division in Hematology within the Department of Medicine. The Division is a dynamic center for basic and translational research, clinical trials, patient care, and teaching. With a budget of approximately $18M and a growing program, the Hematology investigators are developing novel approaches to advancing the understanding and treatment of hematologic disorders, all with the goal of improving outcomes for patients with these diseases.

The Division Manager provides comprehensive management and leadership for all financial administrative functions including: budgeting, strategic planning, human resources, grant and contract administration, academic affairs, facilities/space, compliance and safety. The Division Manager leads the division operations and works closely with the Cancer Clinical Trials Office (CCTO) on clinical trial research staffing, budgets, and post-award financial management. The Division Manager establishes the administration's organizational structure and environment and has oversight for administrative policies and procedures within the division.
Duties include:
  • Direct staff and provide leadership to achieve goals and vision of the division and the day-to-day operations. Responsible for hiring and retaining staff, career coaching, personal development for direct reports and accountable for the performance of employees.
  • Establish and manage clinical programs which may include outreach agreements and recruiting for new faculty, clinical educators, and instructors. Provide financial leadership to clinical programs to maximize clinical profitability. May establish measuring systems and tools to determine productivity of outreach agreements.
  • May partner with Chief and DFA in working with Hospital(s)and Clinics in development of business and program planning; participate in the negotiation of and monitor funds flow and productivity targets. Recommend and develop strategies for clinical cost accounting, revenue management and productivity reporting.
  • Represent the division's needs in regard to research, clinical and service facilities, may negotiate on behalf of the unit's current and future needs with the school and hospital(s)/clinic administration.
  • May independently or in collaboration with human resources managers, guide faculty supervisors in the interpretation and implementation of human resources policies, procedures and programs.
  • Develop business plans and infrastructure to support research and teaching. Provide analysis and review of multi-year plans, including providing alternative methods for achieving goals when necessary. Influence Chief and/or DFA on specific recommendations for current operation and for future development of the division and lead process improvement.
  • Interpret, implement and ensure compliance with university clinical and administrative policies and procedures within the division. Recommend new internal policies, guidelines and procedures.
  • Oversee and/or manage the finances across all sources for the annual budget cycle, including developing, monitoring, analyzing forecasting and reporting. Coordinate with the hospital(s) budgeting process, negotiate funds flow agreements. May negotiate funding with the hospital(s) for programmatic needs along with the DFA.
  • Manage and coordinate grants and contracts for the division. Ensure compliance with institutional and external requirements.
  • Oversee the management of all student, fellow, residency related activities and graduate program administration.
  • Make recommendations for changes in staffing, facilities, health and safety compliance, finance, technology and/or administrative functions. Work with the DFA, Chief, Chair and /or Dean's Office regarding resources to support faculty activities and interests.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):
  • Bachelor's degree and three years of experience in administrative and financial management, or a combination of education and relevant experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Frequently sitting.
  • Occasionally stand/walk, writing by hand, use a telephone, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 11-20 pounds.
  • Rarely sort/file paperwork or parts, rarely twist/bend/stoop/squat.
