The University of Virginia's McIntire Department of Music seeks applications for a Lecturer in Trumpet starting in the 2019-2020 Academic Year, with an anticipated start date of August 25, 2019. This is a half-time position and duties include performing as the Principal Trumpet in the Charlottesville Symphony at the University of Virginia, coaching orchestra trumpet sectionals, performing in a Faculty Ensemble, coaching a chamber music ensemble, and additional teaching, administrative, and performance duties. The Lecturer in Trumpet will also develop a studio of primarily undergraduate trumpet students (approximately 10) and these private lessons are compensated beyond the half-time salary. Many other performance opportunities are also available to Performance Faculty.
The UVA Music Department supports a vibrant performance program featuring a wide range of ensembles such as new music, jazz, wind ensemble, and many more. In addition, the Department offers innovative programs in Composition and Computer Technologies, and Critical and Comparative Studies. We are very interested in attracting excellent orchestral performance colleagues who can also interact with these areas of the Department in some way. Applicants must have a Master's degree in music by the date of appointment; a Doctorate in music is preferred. Successful teaching and recruiting experience at the university level and evidence of significant experience as a solo and ensemble performer is desired. Candidates should be comfortable teaching students of varying skill levels (music majors and non-majors), and teaching a range of classical and modern techniques and repertoire.
