Teaching Assistants are in need for Access Programs 2019 Summer Academic Challenge, a summer math and science enrichment program for middle and high school students.

Position Description:

Access Programs’ Summer Academic Challenge (SAC) is a five-week STEM enrichment program serving low income, first generation, and student of color primarily from Tacoma Public Schools and Pierce County. Students arrive on June 26, 2019, and finish the program on July 26, 2019. Classes are held on the University of Puget Sound’s campus.

Ideal candidates are knowledgeable in STEM, enthusiastic, innovative Student, enjoys working with youth in a collaborative student-centered learning environments.

Teaching Assistants will:

  • Assist teachers to implement the STEM curriculum
  • Facilitates activities in small and large groups during lunch time
  • Serve as a positive role model for 7-12th-grade students
  • Monitor student before and after
  • Chaperone field trips
  • Have an opportunity to share their passion for learning mathematics and science with local youth.
  • Support their respective classroom teacher with classroom management and curriculum implementation
  • Model appropriate classroom behavior and attire
  • Work with local 7-12th grade students on in-class assignments and activities.
  • Chaperone the students on day trips, engage students during lunch and activity time, and monitor student activity before and after classroom instruction adjourns.

Qualifications:

  • Must be current undergraduate, recent graduate, or youth development professional(preference may be given to those attending the University of Puget Sound, Access Programs Alumni, and returning SAC staff)
  • Prior experience working with youth from diverse populations
  • Work collaboratively under the direction of an experienced teaching professional
  • Assist teachers to implement the STEM curriculum
  • Facilitates activities in small and large groups during lunch time
  • Serve as a positive role model for 7-12th-grade students
  • Monitor student before and after
  • Chaperone field trips
  • Hold a valid driver’s license
  • Ability to respectfully work, communicate and provide leadership within a diverse campus community.

Compensation and Benefits:

This position is non-exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

This position is not eligible for benefits.
