Colby College invites applications for a postdoctoral fellowship in Counseling Services. This full-time, temporary, 11-month position has a preferred start date of August 1, 2019. A competitive salary, benefits, professional development funds, and support and study materials in preparation for EPPP are provided.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a range of counseling, consultation, outreach, and prevention services within a dynamic and diverse community of highly engaged undergraduate students, faculty, and staff. They must possess a passion for working with college students, have a strong team orientation, and be committed to collaborating programmatically with their Counseling Services’ colleagues, as well as staff and student leaders campus wide. A minimum of 2 hours of weekly, individual supervision will be provided. Additionally, participation in Counseling Services’ weekly clinical case conference, as well as our Eating Disorder and Mental Health Treatment Team meetings, which include Health Services’ staff, is expected. A minimum of 40 hours of work per week is required, with approximately 60% of that time devoted to direct clinical service. Remaining time will be spent focusing on programming initiatives and the fostering of key campus relationships and partnerships. As a result of the job duties, the person serving in the postdoctoral fellowship will leave Colby with strong clinical preparation and skills in program development in a college setting, as well as with a deeper, foundational understanding of the contemporary issues and challenges facing college mental health. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide individual and group counseling and crisis intervention for a diverse population of undergraduate students
  
• Work collaboratively with staff and student leaders to develop and implement innovative and effective psychoeducational programming
  
• Provide clinical consultation for faculty/staff, students, and concerned others
  
• Engage in outreach and liaison efforts with the broader campus community, with an emphasis on building relationships with Colby students from traditionally underrepresented and underserved groups
• Provide mental health related trainings on campus, including student hall staff trainings and gatekeeper trainings
• Serve on a limited on-call rotation; provide backup coverage to contracted, after-hours crisis support provider
• Keep complete, timely records of clinical activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA-accredited program by September 1, 2019 is strongly preferred; exceptions will be made for candidates who are ABD, with the expected completion of this remaining degree requirement by January 1, 2020
• At least one year of experience working with emerging adults in a college mental health setting, including experience developing and presenting innovative psychoeducational programming is strongly preferred
• Experience and proficiency in working with a diverse client population, which would include, but not be limited to, addressing issues of race, culture, religion, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, ability, and issues related to resources and access
• A generalist professional orientation with solid clinical skills and the ability to assess and treat a wide range of presenting concerns
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
• Excellent organizational skills, time management, and attention to detail
• Creative energy around and enthusiasm for working with students in a small, liberal arts college community
• Ability to make an impact through work as a member of a team and diverse community

KEY RELATIONSHIPS:Reporting to the director of Counseling Services, this position interacts with students, faculty, staff, and outside constituencies.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:General open office and campus environment. Position involves sitting, although frequent movement is necessary. Computer usage involving repetitive hand/wrist motion is also necessary.
