Chatham University is launching its Bachelor of Arts in Immersive Media in the fall of 2019. One of the first programs of its kind, the B.A. in Immersive Media (IMM) is an interdisciplinary program that equips students with knowledge of design thinking, computer programming, interactive game design technology, creative methods, and cutting-edge hardware to create immersive experiences for a variety of applications and industries.

Our Immersive Media program is an interdisciplinary program with a focus on inter-department collaboration, research, and course development. We are looking for this position to contribute to course development, research and project development, and student mentorship. Faculty for the program will be expected to work with faculty from other departments and industry partners to explore expanded applications for immersive technologies.

Position Summary:
This twelve-month position includes advising students, University service, professional, creative work and/or research and teaching at the undergraduate level, in the field of immersive media focused on virtual and augmented reality experience development. Candidates are expected to either carry out research or work on meaningful projects in a manner that encourages student involvement and contributes to the overall development of the Campus community. Faculty in the department will be expected to maintain and foster relationships with industry partners, attend industry conferences representing the university, and contribute to the local immersive development community.

Duties and Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for teaching as well as collaborating on course development for the Immersive Media program curriculum and new courses. It is imperative that the candidate networks with industry, to include conference attendance, talks/lectures and attending industry events. Frequently, this position will work with other Immersive Media faculty to provide IT consultation and collaboration. It is expected that the candidate participate in departmental meetings, university trainings and other duties as assigned. It is also expected that the candidate fully participate in admissions related activities including recruitment.

Required Qualifications:
•Ideal candidates will have or show potential for collaborative interdisciplinary work using immersive technology to solve difficult problems.
•Ability to teach either Unreal Engine or Unity for immersive development
•Practical experience outside of academia is also desirable (e.g. with a game development studio, design consultancy, or other company focused on immersive projects).
•Candidates with a combination of academic and practical experience are particularly encouraged to apply.
•A master’s degree or Ph.D. is required.
Desired Qualifications:
•Experience teaching object oriented computer programming.
•Experience teaching or applying human centered design principles.
