Greenfield Community College is located in the beautiful and historic Pioneer Valley of western Massachusetts, between the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains and the fertile farmland of the Connecticut River watershed. GCC is a public community college serving over 4,800 people annually in credit courses and credit-free workshops. Much of the College has undergone a multi-million dollar renovation that incorporates universal design principles to meet the needs of all our students. THE PROJECT:

The Early Childhood Education Career Pathways Grant Project at Greenfield Community College will provide educational support, training, and recruitment to individuals interested in a career in early childhood education. (The grant will provide services and support to those currently in the ECE field who are returning to GCC for continuing education, as well as to students new to the ECE field.) The professional tutor will assist all students, as needed, in the Early Childhood Education program at GCC.


Job Description:

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

Provides one-on-one and/or small group tutoring for students in day, evening, and online classes in the Early Childhood Education program; performs related duties.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
  • Tutor Early Childhood Education students in 1:1 and group sessions in person, online, and by telephone
  • Provide content-specific tutoring for Early Childhood Education courses and general college skills support (reading, writing, etc.) for general education courses
  • Meet with Education Program Coordinator and/or Early Childhood Education Career Pathways Grant Coordinator as needed to discuss appropriate tutoring approaches.
  • Maintain log of tutoring sessions for grant reporting purposes
  • Provide tutoring at flexible times to include some evening and/or week-end times as well as day hours
  • Perform other student support functions as determined by Education Program Coordinator and/or Early Childhood Education Career Pathways Grant Coordinator




Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors' degree in related field
  • Experience teaching and/or tutoring in Early Childhood Education or related field
  • Experience with typical age college students as well as with adult learners.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated successful community college teaching or tutoring experience
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse abilities and academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, and cultural composition of community college students, faculty, and staff
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusion and diversity
  • Familiarity with Moodle or similar online learning management systems

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

This is a part time, non-benefited, grant-funded position entailing approximately 10 hours/week of professional tutoring for students enrolled in the Early Childhood Education Program. Grant name: The Early Childhood Education Career Pathways Grant Project at Greenfield Community College. The planning grant runs through June 2019, with the potential for renewal for FY 2020.

SALARY: 28.29/hour, 10 hours per week
