Development Associate, Athletics - Office of Advancement
The Office of Advancement supports the mission of Georgetown University, its faculty, and students by developing relationships with key constituencies, connecting with alumni, and working with donors to help them know and understand opportunities for partnership with the university.

The Development Associate (DA) for Athletics is a member of the athletic development team and works with colleagues within both the Office of Advancement and the Athletic Department to support the team's efforts in developing a donor pipeline and promoting a culture of gratitude. The DA provides high-level administrative and strategic support to the athletic development team. The position is responsible for assisting with portfolio review, maintenance, and strategy, identifying and researching potential donors to the university, and providing full-spectrum support to development officers. Additionally, the incumbent will be responsible for executing all steps in the gift process, support events, stewardship activities, and board communications. This position will communicate directly with donors and, in all that she/he does, works to build a culture of gratitude and ensures that donors are appreciated, recognized, informed, and engaged.

The Development Associate, Athletics reports to the Sr. Director of Development for Athletics. The DA works closely with development officers, the Advancement Stewardship team, and Advancement Gift Administration, and other advancement colleagues. The position also collaborates with colleagues in the Department of Athletics including coaches, and staff in the Marketing, Ticketing, Sports Information, Business, and Compliance offices. This position works with both internal and external constituents. Due to the high-level nature of this work, this position requires a high-level of confidentiality, careful judgment, discretion, and detail-orientation. The Development Associate will have duties that include, but are not limited to the following:

Gift Tracking
  • Entering and tracking asks and proposals.
  • Managing questionnaires for Gift Agreements/Statement of Intents, and gift transmittal forms.
  • Following up on corrections and specific allocation requests for gifts.
  • Tracking special project gift processes/progress with the Athletics Business Office.

Research and Portfolio Management
  • Generate strategic prospective donor lists as requested for specific fundraising initiatives or projects.
  • Research existing and prospective donors in order to estimate giving potential and apply appropriate capacity ratings.
  • Assist with portfolio management - review, maintenance, and strategy.
  • Ad hoc topical or statistical research requests by the Athletic Director or Sr. Director.

Stewardship
  • Works closely with the Senior Associate Director of Athletics Stewardship to steward athletics donors.
  • Assist with donor tours of campus and the Thompson Center.
  • Assist with stewardship activities including the Annual Endowed Scholarship Recipient Thank a Thon.
  • Assist with the preparation of reports for the annual investment reports.
  • Manage PRM actions, such as tracking donor stewardship engagement.
  • Run reports for weekly gift acknowledgement, capital funding progress, and group fund efforts.
  • Assist with the management of group funding efforts, such as providing updates on funds, as well as the area of interest/support.

Communications
  • Manage the Associate Director of Development's weekly gift acknowledgement letters - $5K+ gifts and $25K+ pledges.
  • Manage board communications.
  • Assist the Associate Director of Development's stewardship communications to specific donor groups.
  • Assist with the preparation of event and meeting briefings.

Administration
  • Assist with the management of the Athletics Development website, including: updating statistics, maintaining priorities, adding relevant press releases, new facility designs, and video content.
  • Manage budget and expense reconciliations.
  • Manage basic office needs - supplies and equipment.

Events
  • Manage Men's Basketball Suites invitation lists, invitations, RSVPs, and catering.
  • Manage Development events, including invitations, RSVPs, and catering.
  • Assist with the annual Athletics Scholarship Event, Athletics signature events, and board meetings.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • A minimum of 1-2 years higher education or other similar experience.
  • Superior organizational skills and proven experience working independently, and collaboratively with a team.
  • Outstanding written and oral communications skills and diplomatic skills.
  • Ability to exercise a high level of discretion and confidentiality with information
  • Strong customer service orientation with all constituents and stakeholders
  • Effectively manage projects that are both data-driven and relationship-driven.
  • Knowledge of CRM systems and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Gmail, and web/social media platforms.
