The Division of Agriculture is a state wide campus, with faculty based on University campuses, at Research and Extension Centers and in every Arkansas County. About the College/Department

In a partnership between the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture and Arkansas State University, faculty in the ASU College of Agriculture conduct research through the Agricultural Experiment Station within the Division of Agriculture. ASU scientists work collaboratively with other Division scientists on a number of research projects with an emphasis on row crop agriculture in northeast Arkansas.

Department Home Page Job Type Staff Summary of Job Duties

Duties include laboratory, greenhouse, and field activities in crop production protection research to improve agricultural sustainability. In addition to supervising part-time labor, field work will include (but not limited to) planting, irrigation, spraying, data collection, and harvesting. Additional duties include installation and maintenance of data logging equipment as well as collection, summarization and statistical analysis for pest, soil, water and crop plant monitoring activities. The individual also will assist with development of research publications, reports and presentations. Position is available with the University of Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station on the campus of Arkansas State University, Jonesboro.

B.S. with a concentration in entomology, agronomy, environmental science, closely related field in applied sciences required. A valid driver’s license is required. Must be able to write and communicate effectively. Computer skills, particularly experience with spreadsheets, word processing, SAS and ArcGIS are essential.

M.S. preferred. Preference will be given to individuals with interest in agricultural sustainability and ability to relate and respond to the needs of Arkansas farmers. The successful candidate will have university coursework that includes undergraduate and/or graduate courses in pest management (e.g. entomology, plant pathology, and weed science) as well in plant, soil, and water science. The candidate should be interested in developing and implementing crop management practices that improve farm profitability as well as reduce environmental impacts of agricultural practices. Experience in and/or knowledge of field plot techniques and familiarity with Midsouth crop production is desirable.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

The candidate should have abilities and interest in field research to improve sustainability of Arkansas agricultural production. Strong and effective verbal and written communication skills are essential. The successful applicant should have a keen interest in and ability to work in large and small plot field research environments on university affiliated and private farms in summer conditions. The employee must be able to perform physical work duties such as lifting the minimum weigh of 50 pounds and operate a tractor and an ATV. The job also requires driving long distances and walking and working in agricultural fields.
