Nature of Work

The Senior Accountant reports to the Assistant Vice President for Budget and Finance/Comptroller and is responsible for assisting with accounting, auditing, financial reporting and software maintenance for the College of Coastal Georgia. The position is responsible for monthly closing of the general ledger and provides significant assistance to the AVP for Budget and Finance/Comptroller in preparing the annual financial report and supporting documents for the College. Some weekend and evening work is required.

Essential Duties

•Responsible for analysis and reconciliation of an assigned subset of accounts.
•Assists with the College’s annual financial report and annual audit.
•Approves and maintains vendors.
•Approves and reviews journal entries.
•Assists monthly closeout.
•Assists Assistant Vice President for Budget and Finance with preparation of audit schedules, financial statements and GAAP reporting.
•Assist to ensure College’s compliance to federal, state and regulatory requirements and policies.
•Assists in the preparation of monthly and annual financial reports and other related reports required by the College constituencies, the Board of Regents and other external agencies.
•Works closely with the Director of Student Accounts/Bursar to coordinate daily accounting activity in the areas of Revenue Collections and as needed.

Minimum Qualifications and Training

•Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
•Three years of experience in government and fund accounting.
•Knowledge of current accounting principles (GASB & FASB).
•Three years of experience in financial analysis, financial reporting and forecasting.
•Three years of experience in financial statement preparation.
•Three years of experience in operating an accounting-oriented software application such as PeopleSoft.
•Excellent communications skills and a commitment to providing services in accordance with the sated mission, goals, objectives and priorities of the College.
•Must successfully pass a background and credit check.

Preferred Qualifications and Training

•Experience working with PeopleSoft financial software system desired.
