Lehigh’s Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs aspires to cultivate the premier values-based community experience in the nation. Reporting to the associate dean of students, the assistant dean/director of fraternity & sorority affairs leads the department; develops and implements short-term and long-range plans for fraternity and sorority affairs; sets department goals and priorities; coordinates assessment and evaluation efforts; and enacts strategies to achieve priorities of the department, division, and university. The successful candidate will lead departmental strategic planning and vision development and will work with the fraternity and sorority community through hands-on advising, innovative and creative programming, and educational initiatives critical to the success of the community. The assistant dean/director facilitates educational and programmatic initiatives and supports the advisement of the Interfraternity, Panhellenic, and Cultural Greek councils to promote health and safety; foster diversity and inclusion; and cultivate a learning-centered environment that connects individual, organizational and community experiences. This individual is a key partner with faculty and administrative leaders across the institution in supporting university initiatives designed to enhance engaged learning experiences; strengthen social climate and out-of-class engagement; and transform the residential campus experience to integrate the residential, academic, and social aspects of campus life. The assistant dean/director is a collaborative member of the Dean of Students leadership team, and serves as a rotating member of the Dean On Call Staff for emergency response, and serves as project manager on critical Dean of Students initiatives.

Responsibilities of the assistant dean/director include hiring and developing a high performing and cohesive staff; crafting and implementing student-centered programs; and providing oversight for leadership development, chapter and council advising, policy development, advisor support, budget management, and overall administration of the sorority and fraternity community. The assistant dean/director communicates the mission and vision of the department to the fraternity/sorority and university communities, parents, alumni, fraternity and sorority national headquarters staff, and the higher education profession.

This position is responsible for the overall supervision of professional staff and office personnel, providing direct supervision, guidance, and support to one (1) associate director and one (1) program coordinator; indirect supervision of three (3) assistant directors, numerous student staff; and mentoring and advising support to a community with 25 chapters and more than 1,100 members.

Lehigh University seeks a professional with passion, a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion, student advocacy, and student-centered learning and development. The successful candidate for this role will have a master’s degree in higher education, student personnel, or related field and at least five to eight years of progressive post-masters experience in fraternity and sorority affairs, student involvement, or a related functional area in higher education. The candidate must have demonstrated management experience with budget oversight, personnel supervision, and program development, as well as experience in developing relationships with people from different cultural backgrounds. Previous experience in strategic planning and an ability to build consensus and support for short and long-term goals; interest in and engagement with developmental advising and mentoring; and strong written and interpersonal communication with the ability to communicate effectively with all components of the University and external constituents will be important considerations in the selection of the next assistant dean/director of fraternity & sorority affairs.
