Duties Performed in the Usual Course of the Job

The Department of Anatomical Sciences at the proposed College of Osteopathic Medicine at Sam Houston State University is seeking a full-time, tenure track anatomy/histology faculty member. Duties of the position will include, but are not limited to teaching clinically oriented gross anatomy, histology, and/or embryology; scientific method and research methodology, participating in curriculum development and implementation; serving as an academic advisor to assigned students; participation in the interview and selection process of COM students and continued scholarly activity. The successful candidate will be responsible for instruction using various teaching methods with a focus on active learning. The majority of instruction will be in the Foundations of Biomedical Sciences course, but the selected faculty member will also participate in small groups and active learning in the clinical systems courses. All faculty members are expected to participate in scholarly activity, service to the college and student mentoring.

Educational Requirements for the Position

PhD or terminal degree in appropriate field.

Experience Required for the Position

PhD or equivalent degree in anatomy, histology or related field from an accredited university with postdoctoral experience. A DO or MD degree with appropriate experience may also apply. At least 3 years of experience in an academic institution teaching at the graduate or professional level, with medical school experience preferred.

Other Requirements for the Position

Experience using different teaching methods which might include case-based learning, ‘flipped classroom’, problem-based learning, interactive large group presentation, audience response systems, curriculum delivery systems (e.g. Canvas or Blackboard), and proficiency in exam item (COMLEX and/or USMLE) writing will an advantage
