Chief Communications Officer
The College of Saint Benedict (CSB) invites applications for the full-time, benefit-eligible position of Chief Communications Officer. The Chief Communications Officer reports to the College of Saint Benedict President, is housed within the Office of the President and serves on the CSB Cabinet.
The Chief Communications Officer advances the distinctive brand, communications, marketing and public relations of the College of Saint Benedict. Specifically, this position will support enrollment marketing, drive fundraising communications, and elevate the brand profile of the institution. This position leads the creation and implementation of a strategic vision and plan to increase awareness and support among key stakeholders, including faculty, staff, current students, alumnae, donors, and influencers in the media, governing bodies, funding and partner organizations. The Chief Communications Officer also serves as the external public relations and crisis communications lead for the College of Saint Benedict. This position oversees the CSB Strategic Communications Team, which is responsible for developing comprehensive marketing and communications strategies and tactical solutions for the college, including CSB Institutional Advancement. This position works in tandem with the CSB/SJU Enrollment Marketing team, providing support and insight around their work as an engaged and collaborative partner, seeking to leverage opportunities and resources. Similarly, there is an expectation of collaboration with the Saint John's University marketing function as well. A key driver in this work is an understanding of the vital importance of high-quality liberal arts education and its transformative impact as a college for women in a rapidly evolving higher education marketplace.
The College of Saint Benedict is a liberal arts college for women located in the central lakes area of Minnesota. The campus is minutes away from St. Cloud, an increasingly diverse regional center with a population of over 100,000, and 70 miles from Minneapolis and St. Paul. Some CSB staff choose to reside locally, while others commute from the Twin Cities. •Serve as a senior adviser and counsel for CSB President, and the CSB Cabinet, providing support for the college's strategic marketing, communications planning and public relations needs.
•Set the vision for, and provide leadership, management, accountability and guidance to, a team of marketing communications professionals.
•Formalize a brand strategy, implement strategic marketing campaigns and manage the CSB identity both internally and externally.
•Collaborate closely with leadership of advancement, and their teams, on critical fundraising, alumnae development, and campaign communications. •Work in close partnership with the CSB/SJU Enrollment Management and Marketing team, drafting and implementing messages that directly relate to the recruitment of women.
•Understand and engage key storytelling opportunities by mining and leveraging internal and external resources, data, and stories to identify ways to strategically express and deliver them in support of marketing, fundraising and recruiting goals.
•Ensure CSB is capitalizing on new and emerging technologies that strategically and effectively tell the college's stories, with an emphasis on our digital and social media presence.
•Create a public relations strategy, specifically media relations outreach, focused on raising the national and global profile of CSB
. •Cultivate relationships with key influencers within media outlets, higher education, and funding agencies.
•Develop, lead and manage a PR content marketing program, and supporting content, that elevates CSB's strategic priorities and builds brand awareness, followers and loyalty.
•Serve as the college's media relations contact and spokesperson.
•Successful experience planning and implementing integrated marketing and communications strategies.
•Demonstrated expertise building visibility and positive perceptions through effective brand strategies.
•Evidence of building partnerships with key colleagues and stakeholders and partners.
•Developed presence and relationships with media outlets, experience working directly with news media and proven ability to provide guidance, counsel and insight on presidential and college news media outreach. •Preparedness to serve as college spokesperson, including in crisis, and to play an instrumental role in all crisis management.
•Familiarity with established and emerging uses of technology, including website design and optimization, digital engagement and social media. •Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, including copywriting, speech writing and editing.
•Experience leading, managing and motivating teams.
