Job Title Director of Digital Strategy Department Communications and Marketing Position Summary

The Director of Digital Strategy is part of the leadership team in the Communications & Marketing office at Gettysburg College, reporting to the Executive Director of Communications & Marketing. The Director of Digital Strategy is responsible for creating and implementing digital strategies to support the goals of the Communications & Marketing office. Further, the Director will help the College to create a digital communications strategy that is transformative, user-centric and outstanding among our peers.

The Director oversees the College’s website, social media presence, and other digital initiatives and is responsible for maintaining these platforms so that they are user-focused, responsive, and easy to navigate. The Director is responsible for collecting and analyzing information about web, digital, and social media analytics to inform decision making.

Together with the Director of Creative Services, the Director is also responsible for monitoring and enforcing the College’s digital branding, ensuring consistent design and style. The Director is a member of the content strategy planning team and works with colleagues to develop and distribute content that engages the College’s primary audiences.

The candidate will oversee members of the Communications & Marketing office and must demonstrate management and leadership skills; the ability to be a bridge-builder and liaison between academic, administrative and technology departments throughout the College; have a strong understanding of messaging, visual identity and digital communications practices and strategies across Web, digital, and social media and demonstrate experience with Google Analytics, SEO, and applying UX and UI principles. The candidate will be a strategist who loves data and using it to drive decision-making. The candidate must also have excellent organizational, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills that facilitate collaboration with colleagues at all levels and with internal and external customers. The Director must be self-motivated, efficient, and detail-oriented, and have the ability to manage and work within a budget.

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required with at least six years of professional experience in digital strategy and web communications highly desired; previous supervisory experience is highly preferred. Gettysburg College seeks candidates who have the communication skills and cross-cultural abilities to maximize their effectiveness with diverse groups of students, colleagues, and community members

The primary responsibilities of this position include:

•Extensive experience conceptualizing and launching websites and other digital strategies from content to post-launch management.
•Demonstrated expertise applying UX and UI principles, including the development of tailored or personalized user experiences driven by data.
•Experience with understanding and implementing SEO.
•Responsible for testing upgrades, enhancements, and integration to the Content Management System and the third-party email tool.
•Creative and innovative project development experience, demonstrating the ability to match personal vision with institutional priorities and strategic initiatives.
•Strong sense product ownership, balancing technical, graphic, navigational, and client demands.
•A self-starter who can also work with others to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables, including managing tradeoffs between technology, user experience and client needs.
•Experience developing standards, schedules and workflow processes to meet deadlines and client needs.
•Strong command of a variety of content management systems, in order to troubleshoot and understand CMS logic.
•Demonstrated understanding of UX/UI/IA development, as well as familiarity with a wide variety of digital publishing platforms and tools.
•Experience using Google Adwords, Google tag manager, and Google webmaster tools
•Moderate proficiency in CSS and PHP and expert proficiency in HTML and JS
•Moderate to expert Experience using Adobe Creative Suite and Apple OS, specifically Photoshop or Premiere
•Familiarity with higher education communications supporting recruitment, fundraising, engagement and academic program marketing a plus.

    Gettysburg College Gettysburg College has been witness and participant to some of the most significant events in the history of our nation. Chartered in 1832 to provide education for the residents of south-central Pennsylvania, the College was a neighbor to fighting between Union and Confederate troops in July 1863. On July 1, math professor Michael Jacobs cancelled classes after telling his students that their minds were no longer on their lessons. Pennsylvania Hall, the College's first building, served during and after the Civil War battle as a hospital for the wounded, treating more than 700 Union and Confederate soldiers. On November 19, 1863, Gettysburg College students walked from Pennsylvania Hall into the historic town to hear President Abraham Lincoln deliver his legendary Gettysburg Address.

    Gettysburg CollegePresident Dwight D. Eisenhower was also closely associated with Gettysburg College. Following his presidency, he returned to Gettysburg to live and served the College as a member of its Board of Trustees. He wrote his memoirs in what is today the College's Admissions Office, now known as Eisenhower House.
