Department Overview
The Office of Academic Affairs is responsible for supporting the
activities and maximizing the performance of the educational,
research and clinical programs of the University of North Texas
Health Science Center (UNTHSC). The office strives to promote
collaboration, interdisciplinary initiatives, shared services and
economies of scale, while fostering the academic and professional
strengths of the UNTHSC faculty and students.

The Vice Provost for Community Engagement & Service (VPCES) leads a strategy to expand and support community-UNTHSC partnerships and to strengthen a university-wide infrastructure in support of this strategy. The VPCES will work collaboratively across the organization and externally to enhance the UNTHSC, its schools and programs, and achieve the mission of "Creating Solutions for a Healthier Community."

Position Details
**Open only to internal candidates at University of North Texas Health Science Center**

The VPCES will connect internally to advance quality experiential and service-learning opportunities, provide services for faculty with community-based teaching and scholarship/research, and cultivate meaningful and sustainable university-community partnerships. The VPCES will foster opportunities for civic engagement and leadership development at the HSC for students, faculty, and community members. The VPCES will seek to connect HSC resources and expertise with the knowledge, assets and needs of diverse partners to address community issues both locally, regionally, and internationally.

Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

* Communicate effectively the health science center's vision, the strategic plan, as well as other relevant information regarding the goals and operations.
* Serve as a key strategist and liaison between the provost and the external community; facilitate internal and external communications that highlight engagement stories and strengthen the UNTHSC brand.
* Support and advance health science center-wide community engagement and advise the provost of pertinent community issues affecting the institution.
* Identify opportunities for partnership and cultivate mutually beneficial partnerships to advance community engagement and service.
* Build effective relationships and partnerships with internal and external constituents.
* Develop and manage the HSC's assessment of its community engagement and outreach efforts.
* Develop services in support of community engagement and service activities coordinated via schools, colleges, and programs.
* Develop systems to measure and communicate the value provided by UNTHSC via its community engagement and service programs.
* Develop new models of community engagement; coordinate services relevant for the community; lead and/or assist with community advisory boards, contract negotiations, and partner closely with offices such as Research Development & Commercialization and Institutional Advancement.

Required Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree and eight (8) years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
