Job Summary

The Department of Accounting at Eastern Washington University’s College of Business & Public Administration is currently inviting applications to fill one Lecturer position to start Fall 2020.

Eastern is a regional, comprehensive institution. The primary teaching area for this position includes QuickBooks and Microsoft Office Certification, primarily to Professional Accounting students. Faculty offices may be located on either Eastern’s Riverpoint campus, adjacent to downtown Spokane in the University District, or on the Cheney campus, but all faculty are expected to teach at both locations.

Additionally, the candidate selected for this position will be expected to offer experience teaching online academic courses to a diverse college student body.

The College is located on Eastern’s Riverpoint Campus in Spokane, and maintains an administrative presence in Cheney, a residential suburb and the location of EWU’s residential campus. The business program is accredited by AACSB.Cheney and Spokane are 17 miles apart. Spokane and vicinity offers a wide range of cultural, recreational, dining, shopping, and entertainment alternatives as well as extensive affordable housing options.

Spokane is home to three universities and to health related, medical and other selective programs from the two state doctoral universities. Spokane offers a high quality network of public and private K-12 schools, an extensive community college system, and two major healthcare/hospital systems. Living costs are below the national average and Washington State does not levy an income tax. Spokane is located on a desert high plateau and enjoys over 220 days of sunshine per year, with average summer time temperatures in the upper 70’s and 80’s, fewer than 4 feet of snow per year and low humidity. Abundant outdoor recreational opportunities are available year round: skiing, snowboarding, hiking, biking, swimming, fishing, kayaking and more. The area offers a wholesome life-style for young families as well as for energetic empty nesters.

Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a business-related discipline from an AACSB Accredited University
  • Demonstrated experience teaching online academic courses
  • Experience teaching QuickBooks and Microsoft Office
  • QuickBooks Certified User (specifically the online version)
  • Microsoft Office Specialist Master Certification (Word Expert, Excel Expert, and PowerPoint)
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal accessibility, of our students, faculty, staff, and the public.

  • Candidates who offer current course materials ready for deployment may be given priority consideration
  • Lab management experience

Schedule will vary from quarter to quarter to fulfill position’s responsibilities which includes teaching day, night, and online classes. Typical annual teaching schedule is up to 40 credit hours.

Job Duties

A workload plan will be developed and included as part of the faculty contract. Teaching will comprise up to 40 credits in a 3-quarter year. A position will also have responsibilities involving research and service to the profession, community, and the university.

Responsibilities related to QuickBooks and Microsoft Office Certification include:

  • Manage the professional site licenses for QBCU and MOS Certification tests
  • Schedule and administer testing sessions for the QBCU and MOS certifications that are available to all EWU students, following strict testing protocols
  • Communicate and maintain relationships with other university departments to accommodate students who need to take QBCU and MOS certification exams
  • Provide technical support for testing software

Teaching includes the following additional responsibilities as defined in the faculty CBA:
Meet all scheduled classes
Plan, organize and inform students of course content, texts, readings, assignments, attendance expectations and methods of evaluation including grading scales
Schedule and attend office hours
Turn in grades according to established deadlines
Additionally, all faculty are expected to engage in effective teaching and assessment of student learning.
