Job Id: 340 # of Openings: 1 STUDENT DEVELOPMENT - DEAN OF STUDENT CARE AND SERVICES Responsibilities Reporting to the Vice President for Student Development, the Dean of Student Care & Services is responsible for the strategic development of programs and services related to undergraduate and graduate student well-being and care, and for overseeing the administration of: Academic & Disability Services, the Counseling Center, Student Care and Student Health Services. The Dean of Student Care & Services also serves as a Deputy Title IX Coordinator for students. Duties

  1. Supervise the: Director of Academic & Disability Services, the Director of the Counseling Center, the Director of Student Health Services, the Coordinator of Student Support, and the Administrative Assistant to the Dean. Provide continuous improvement and seamless systems of program and service delivery, student learning outcomes, successful planning and completion of departmental goals and objectives. Approve and monitor the budgets for each of these areas.
  2. Serve as the Deputy Title IX Coordinator for students, which means listening to students’ concerns and then sharing the concerns with the Title IX Coordinator/Director of Equity Investigations to determine an appropriate response in light of college harassment/discrimination policy. This may include providing interim measures to support students and prevent further acts of misconduct. Additionally, provide input, as requested, in planning the most effective prevention training for the various student populations (e.g., new undergraduate students; student athletes; FLEX graduate students; residential graduate students; etc.) as well as ongoing education. Participate in regular meetings with the Title IX team of coordinators and also with the investigator/adjudicator team.
  3. Assist the Vice President for Student Development in establishing, annually evaluating, and publishing student care and campus safety guidelines and policies in the Student Handbook.
  4. Provide leadership for all issues related to the coordination of support in response to students’ mental, physical, emotional, spiritual and/or relational health concerns affecting distress level, class/chapel attendance, eating, and/or sleeping when more than one campus department and/or off-campus resource is involved.
  5. Equip faculty, staff and students to respond, refer and support students in crisis appropriately.
  6. Facilitate student care network (direct threat analysis regarding potential harm to self and/or others) meetings with key members of the campus community.
  7. Coordinate behavioral care plans for at-risk students in collaboration with campus and off-campus resources. At-risk behaviors includes distress that may or may not affect class attendance, sleeping, and/or eating.
  8. Counsel students, upon request or referral, to facilitate personal and spiritual support/growth.
  9. Partner with the Registrar regarding decisions involving in-completes, academic petitions, withdrawals/cancellations, suspensions and dismissals.
  10. Partner with Admissions to establish care plans, as needed, for students reapplying to return to the College.
  11. Review and approve all students requesting to participate in a Global and Experiential Education program.
  12. Based on patterns emerging from service delivery data and/or learning assessment data in Academic & Disability Services, Counseling, Student Care and Student Health Services, initiate and oversee programs (staff and student-based) to address current student care issues as well as to equip faculty, staff and students who desire to be an encouragement to students .
  13. Foster relationships with on-campus and off-campus programs, as well as service providers in an effort to mobilize and coordinate resources for student care.
  14. Collaborate with the Dean of Residence Life when responding to intertwining student care and student-conduct issues.
  15. Facilitate the Student Grievance Procedures, which include recruiting and training faculty/staff ombudspersons and student resources, as well as serving as the point of contact for students, faculty and staff to explain how the procedures work.
  16. Respond to outside requests for information from the Dean’s office (e.g. federal agencies, graduate/law/medical schools) in collaboration with the Dean of Residence Life.
  17. Collaborate with the Dean for Student Engagement in responding to student care concerns that come to light through Chapel attendance accountability meetings.
  18. Meet regularly with the Student Development Deans and Director divisional leadership team, as well as with the Student Development Dean’s leadership team, respectively.
  19. Perform other duties as assigned such as representing the Student Development Division on campuswide committees and participating in campuswide events.
  20. A cell phone is required.
Qualifications
  1. Master’s Degree required, Doctoral degree preferred.
  2. Minimum of seven years’ experience in Student Development or related field.
  3. Excellent interpersonal and administrative skills.
  4. Previous experience in managing college student care, counseling, and/or social work contexts.
  5. Well-developed understanding and demonstrated experience working with mental health crisis intervention, developmental processes and confidentiality.
