Job Summary:

Job Function:

The Peer Mentor position will provide supervision to the Upward Bound participants during the Summer Instructional Component. Main duties will include the encouragement of participants, assist where needed inside the classroom or office, and serve as positive mentor to the students
Essential Job Functions:

Assist participants in achieving success in high school and post-secondary.

Be a mentor and role model for participants.

Possess discipline-specific knowledge in subject matter.

Supervise or assist with student activities in the classroom, lab, events and field trips.

Assist with other duties as assigned by the director.

Maintain a positive learning environment using guidelines set forth in the UB Staff and Student Handbook.

Observe and comply with state law, OSU-OKC policy and procedures and guidelines set forth in the UB Staff and Student Handbook.

Completes all mandatory training and participated in a minimum of two professional development each year.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

Position Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Possess discipline-specific knowledge in either Math, Science, English, or Latin

Possess the ability to work with and motivate low-income/first generation students aged 13 to 19 years’ old

Passion for assisting customers and representing the OSU brand with positivity and professionalism

Evidences a history of demonstrating ethical and professional behavior

Education:

Currently enrolled at an institution of post-secondary education

-or-

Completion of an associates or bachelor’s degree from an accredited university

Certifications &/or Licenses

Current Oklahoma Driver’s License


Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in working with at-risk youth


Working Conditions:

Evening and weekend hours may be required. Normal office working conditions Some events may require to be outside for an extended amount of time during the summer

Physical Requirements:

Normal office physical requirements.Duties require extended periods of sitting, standing, talking, and listeningAbility to participate in student activities and trips off campusRequires lifting up to 30 pounds (if an object weighs more than 45 pounds, OSU-Oklahoma City requires this to be a two-person lift.)
