I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

It is the academic mission of the George Washington University’s School of Business (GWSB) to be a preeminent business school recognized for scholarly research, teaching excellence, innovative curricula and focus on the responsible management of organizations in the global environment. In support of this mission, the GWSB F. David Fowler Career Center is searching for an Assistant Director, Student Programs, to oversee all co-curricular and engagement activities for GWSB’s graduate students, of which there are approximately 1600 in approximately 12 degree programs, both on-campus and online. Within this role, there are four major activities and responsibilities: (a) directing communications activities with student populations, (b) coordinating and providing coaching to graduate student organizations, © developing and delivering co-curricular programming and events in conjunction with the FDFCC career center staff, and (d) overseeing the Fowler Associate program.

This role manages partnerships between internal units, and serves as an advocate for the student population with various departments on campus. This position oversees all aspects of the programs, including strategic direction, event planning and execution, marketing and web management, and community outreach. This role maintains records and contributes to the off-campus student annual report as outlined in the university campus plan. This is a management position at the university that, in addition to leading a work unit, leads and supervises staff directly, makes hiring decisions, provides coaching, training and mentoring, manages performance and determines future staffing needs.
Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 6 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 4 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

Masters degree preferred.
6 years of experience in higher ed working with professional graduate students and managing events.
Experience interfacing with and building strong networks with students, outside vendors and internal partners.
Strong verbal and written communications and financial management skills.
Comfortable with learning new computer systems.
Ability to manage multiple large projects at once.
Prior supervisory experience.
