Job Description Summary

The Assistant Director of Residential Learning, Leadership and Programming is a full-time, twelve-month, exempt position reporting to the Associate Director of Residence Life. The Assistant Director of Residential Learning, Leadership and Programming works closely with other professionals in the administration and management of a comprehensive residence life and housing program that serves 4000+ on-campus students. Has responsibility for general administration and assistance in the management of educational programmatic development, residential learning communities, student staff selection, training and recruitment efforts.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

Residential Learning and Training Support - 40%

  • Oversee and manage departmental paraprofessional staff training programs and initiatives, including maintaining the all online training modules and resources.

  • Oversee and manage departmental paraprofessional staff recruitment initiatives, including coordinating staff interviews, selection, and managing all related staff placement day processes and procedures.

  • Implement and manage a comprehensive socio-cultural, civic, and academic residential living-learning model based off current and relevant trends.

  • Work collaboratively with the Associate Director of Residence Life to implement and manage the residential Community Development structure and any additional residential learning initiatives to achieve desired learning outcomes.

  • Actively maintain appropriate staff resources including the RA Workbook, associated staff newsletters and provide creative and logistical support for community development strategies, as needed.

Leadership, Advising and Programming - 20%

  • Responsible for large scale programmatic events associated with First Six Weeks, Rake Forest, and Pigskin Pigout in collaboration with the Resident Student Association, National Residence Hall Honorary, and New Student Programs.

  • Responsible for the vision and direction of a comprehensive development plan for student staff based on ongoing assessment and best practices.

  • Train and advise leadership of the Resident Student Association (RSA), National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH), South Forest Area Council and oversee the “Of the Month” recognition system, all RSA large scale  fundraisers, including the OCM Care package program.

Supervision and Instruction - 20%

  • Supervise, train, and evaluate job performance of 2-3 full-time, live-in, master’s level Community Directors who provide oversight to master’s seeking Graduate Hall Directors.

  • Serve as content coordinator, primary administrator and instructor for CNS 353 – Resident Adviser for credit course, including oversight of the Sakai Class Site.

Administrative - 20%

  • Work side by side with the Assistant Director of Conduct and Assessment and the Assistant Director of Housing Operations to coordinate the various residential learning and leadership related assessment and research initiatives.  Utilize assessment data to identify improvement opportunities, strategies to enhance the student experience, and guide ongoing staff and program development

  • Maintain the departmental resource room for undergraduate, graduate, and professional programming efforts.

  • Develop long-range strategic planning in conjunction with the appropriate staff, for all the residential  academic/theme based communities

  • Serves on a variety of committees, projects, and programs within the RLH office and University community.

  • Fulfill central office duty on a rotating basis as assigned during the academic year and weekly duty during the summer months.

  • Attend all Residence Life and Housing Central Office meetings as scheduled.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability in program development, management and assessment knowledge and skills.

  • Demonstrated ability in staff supervision and development.

  • Experience in planning and implementing meaningful residential learning models.

  • Experience in designing, planning, and implementing staff training and development models.

  • Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of concepts of college student development.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse campus community and foster inclusivity pertaining to diversity education

  • Potential travel with student groups to local, regional and if approved, national conferences

  • Ability to communicate with a variety of constituents, both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to articulate the role that residence halls play in supporting retention and the overall academic mission of the University.

  • Ability to problem solve, critically think and analyze complex issues while effectively planning and organizing work.

  • Ability to organize workflow and coordinate projects within office and with other departments.

  • Ability to interpret policy and procedures established within the Office of Residence Life and Housing.

  • Ability to work weekends and evenings as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree with concentration in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Facilities Management, or related field

  • A minimum of two to four years of full-time experience working in Housing and Residential Programs (Residence Life), Student Activities or other position working closely with students in a university setting

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years of previous graduate or professional supervisory experience in a university Housing and Residence Life program preferred.
