The Identity and Web Services (IWS) team within the Shared Services Department of the Office of Information Technology is responsible for managing and maintaining the web servers delivering content for the North Carolina State University web presence at www.ncsu.edu, as well as web servers delivering content for most academic and administrative web environments on campus including the cPanel and hosted WordPress services. The team provides technical support and leadership for the University’s Google environments, and is also responsible for managing and maintaining Identity Management Services as well Shibboleth and other web authentication services.

Essential Job Duties

This Systems Programmer / Google Administrator position provides the technical leadership and expertise necessary for the installation, administration and maintenance of the middleware, integration, database and systems software infrastructure to support the processes and strategic initiatives of the University. A key role of this position will be to serve as a technical resource to the Google Services Team and will be responsible for providing technical guidance and support of the University’s Google Apps environment and any other subsequent Google environments as necessary.

The position interacts with customers and other technical staff to develop business processes that address customer needs in a secure and scalable manner. Key relationships will be with the NCSU Help Desk, the Google Services Team, and OIT’s Security & Compliance Unit.

Other Work/Responsibilities

This position collects and utilizes appropriate environment, system and subsystem parameters, usage and runtime data from data performance tools, history reports and application architecture to analyze and report system performance. Additionally, the position also negotiates time and priorities to achieve problem resolution.

Minimum Education/Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or closely related degree from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience in operations analysis and design, systems programming, or closely related area; or a Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of experience in operations analysis and design, systems programming or closely related area from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of experience in operations analysis and design, systems programming, or closely related area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Departmental Required Skills

Adept in using LDAP and MySQL services.

Demonstrated experience in systems automation and programming in a Unix/Linux environment.

Familiarity with multiple programming languages including PHP, Perl and Python

Demonstrated experience in integration of internally developed tools and processes with external providers including cloud-based services.

Thorough knowledge of information technology infrastructure.

Ability to read and comprehend technical documentation. Grasp new concepts and understand the significance of those new concepts.

Ability to work independently, accept responsibility and work under pressure as well as work well in a collaborative team environment.

Proficient written and oral skills, analytical skills

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers and other information systems staff.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

Experience in administering/managing a G Suite domain

Experience in utilizing Google APIs for services including Gmail, Drive, Groups, etc.

Experience in administering LDAP and MySQL services.

Experience in maintaining an email environment including SMTP relays

Experience working in a security-conscious environment.
