Required Qualifications (As evidenced by an attached resume):

Bachelor’s Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Three years of full time relevant experience working with Windows Server administration. Experience working with VMware Server and Active Directory.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working with SAML-based SSO technologies (i.e.  Shibboleth). Experience working with iSCSI SAN technology (i.e.  Equallogic, Compellent). Experience working with load balancers (i.e. Kemp, Sophos UTM).

 

Brief Description of Duties: For the assigned areas of responsibility of Microsoft technologies, networks and storage, the Core Systems Administrator will mainly be providing Tier 2 support; providing Tier 3 support on an as needed basis, and serving as the escalation contact for Tier 1 and Tier 2.The incumbent will provide infrastructure services in all areas needed: storage networking, operating system, network security, directory services, server virtualization using system backup and restore, system and network monitoring, application installation and configuration. They will also perform standard system administration duties including server install, system/application install and patch management, Windows problem determination and escalation, log analysis, etc.

 

Act as primary VMware administrator and expert for primary campus virtualization infrastructure. Provide reliable support for various Windows, Linux and miscellaneous virtual appliances used by various groups. Continually design a strategic plan for virtualization and server consolidation to help align the University with its priorities, to include system architecture and design. Secure the virtual infrastructure so various groups can use the resources based upon their need and technical level. Provide backup and restore VMS/files regularly and update and review disaster recovery and business continuity plans. Constantly invest time and effort in keeping up with the latest in fast paced virtualization field. Investigate and plan business continuity. In performance of all job duties, at all times be responsible for delivering optimal customer service, for protecting institutional data and privacy, and the excellent delivery of solutions and services by following divisional and University policies, procedures, and processes.
 

Administration for Office 365, SharePoint and other web services. Implement and maintain Windows infrastructure, including domain controllers, SQL Server, Microsoft Development Toolkit and Windows Server Update Services. Maintain scripts for Computer Accounts and Identity management, two factor authentication services and single sign on services. Act as administrator for InCommon SSL certificate management. Implement and monitor system backups and disaster recovery. Create procedures and guidelines to install/patch/configure various servers for various applications. Evaluate and effectively communicate complex system problem identifications and resolutions.

 

Provide cloud based and on-premise application administration (Office 365, Google Apps. Provide technical support and training for other support staff who manage Windows and VMware systems. Be a resource to help various computing areas on campus. Be an influencer for the purchase and implementation of technology solutions for the very diverse campus environment.

 

Install and administer the storage environment. Analyze, design, test, document, and implement storage solutions for continuous data availability, integrity, storage and protection. Oversee and implement storage system upgrade and optimization strategies. Develop, maintain, and manage standard operating procedures and configurations of the SAN/NAS environments. Provide reports on storage utilization and uptime of the storage arrays and servers attached to SAN. Develop strategies to manage the frequency of appropriate support package/patch application. Provide technical solutions and escalated support for non-routine, highly complex technical issues.


Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and department mission.

 

Special Notes: This is a full time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption. Occasionally ascends and descends a ladder to service media equipment, operates hand and power tools and frequently moves media equipment weighing up to 50 pounds within buildings and across campus to various classrooms and events.
