At Stony Brook Medicine, a TH PatientAccounting Specialist is a valuable member of our team,who provides administrative and executive support and has the ability tointerface with all levels of management throughout the hospital.

Duties of a TH Patient AccountingSpecialist in the Business Office may include the following but are not limitedto:

  • Act in the role of the Third Party Audit Coordinator.  Act as liaison between SBUMC and the RAC Contractor, SBU HIM, SBU Care Management and other third party payers and contractors regarding open audits as required.  Maintain RAC Tracker software too.
  • Complete daily, weekly, monthly departmental metrics and productivity reporting.
  • Work closely with the Associate Director of Patient Accounts and Supervisor of Governmental Billing.
  • Assist in the completion of departmental performance improvement initiatives/projects including providing analytical support, documenting business office/revenue cycle work flows and tracking of project outcomes.
  • Assist the Director of Patient Accounts with all audits from governmental agencies and internal audits on A/R.
  • Special projects assigned by the Director of Patient Financial Services or Associate Director of Patient Accounts. 
  • Qualifications

     

    Required Qualifications:  Bachelor’sDegree plus four year’s experience in a hospital billing office with a minimumof two years in a supervisory role or in lieu of a degree, ten year’sexperience in a hospital billing office.  Proficiency in softwarepackages, i.e., database packages, spreadsheets and word processingapplications.  Excellent oral, written and highly developed interpersonalinteraction communication skills are essential.  Interface withappropriate University offices, agencies and outside agencies to collectinformation to fulfill and satisfy A/R.  Knowledge of Siemens systems,HIPPA, Compliance and Government regulations as they pertain to a hospitalbilling office.

     

    Preferred Qualifications:  Indepth knowledge of Governmental Billing in a hospital business office. Experience with Claims Scrubber & Omnipro, Supervisory experience, customerservice, remittances.  Must be able to handle several tasks simultaneously.

    All Hospital positions are subject to changes in pass days andshifts as necessary.  This position may require the wearing of respiratoryprotection, which may prohibit the wearing of facial hair.
