Department Overview
The Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science (TAMS) is a unique residential Program for high school-aged Texas students who are high achievers and interested in mathematics and science. While living on Campus in McConnell Hall, students in this two-year program complete a rigorous academic curriculum of college coursework at the University of North Texas (UNT). Instruction is by University Faculty. There are no high school courses taught, but students enjoy many of the activities of high school and the company of age mates who are intellectual peers. The Honors College is dedicated to enriching the undergraduate academic experience for the more than 1,900 talented, motivated, and well-prepared students who choose to be members. The goal of the Honors College is to help these students build an excellent foundation that prepares them for studying at the graduate level, establishing a career, and meeting the demands of responsible citizenship.

Job Description
The Honors College-Dean's Office Department at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire a Student & Program Specialist to join our team. Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
* Providing administrative support to the Assistant Dean of Student Life TAMS/Honors College and to serve as an advisor for student organizations living in McConnell and as needed with Honors Hall.
* Organize and maintain records for all TAMS students pertaining to behavioral documents, reports and medical information.
* Organizes the summer orientation, student life awards and Rose Cutting ceremony and assist other departments including but not limited to preview and interview day, convocation, graduations, Honors College events such as Move in Day, Honors Day, and Hall events.
* Making purchases on behalf of the department utilizing the UNT credit card and following all UNT guidelines for purchasing and reconciliation.
* Responsibilities involved with general administrative duties, excellent customer service, event planning and organizing, delivering presentations to parents and students and student group advising.
* Involves working with UNT housing staff.
* Predominantly be in an office at Sage Hall however, weekly trips to McConnell Hall, Honors and Rawlins Halls will be expected.

Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess the following required qualifications:

Associate's Degree and two years of office administration experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience. The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are required:

* Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
* Demonstrated ability to provide outstanding customer service.
* Demonstrated skill in verbal and written communications.
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
* Ability handle multiple priorities.
* Strong attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:

* Familiarity with the UNT Campus, Microsoft Office proficiency, event planning experience, excellent customer service skills, experience and familiarity working with adolescents and their families, accustomed to walking several times across the UNT campus, and ability to climb 3 flights of stairs, innovative and independent enough to work on projects with little oversight.
