Information Technology Shared Services (ITSS) is a component of The University of North Texas System. The mission of ITSS is simple: to be the best at delivering customer-aligned IT solutions and services. Our services are provided to all member institutions using an IT shared services governance model.

IT Shared Services provides the primary technology used by all campuses to support their operations. These include: shared resources of data centers, computing hardware, software applications, network and voice communications, collaboration and productivity capabilities, central web services, risk management, and security and compliance services. Job Description
The IT Shared Services Department at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire a Senior Software Engineer to join our team. As a Sr. Software Engineer, you will act as an individual contributor and mentor within a team to develop, improve and maintain SaaS products and solutions for the UNT System and its campuses. You will have a proven ability for problem solving, significant experience in reading and writing code, and a continuous desire to learn new technologies. You will design and implement advanced software and highly complex solutions in accordance with and in support of product features and requirements. You will grow professionally, working in a collaborative environment with other engineers, product stakeholders, owners and UX design staff to solve customer problems and determine scope for new features. You will own components of the architecture and provide technical guidance, training and direction for other team members, using your knowledge and experience to share your opinions and ideas with the team.

Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

* Establish and define work assignments for Software Developers, DevOps Administrators and Software Engineers
* Establish and document guidelines, practices and procedures for technical work within the team
* Evaluate, test, recommend and implement solutions to engineering challenges
* Review and approve solutions and documentation of team members and other sources of technical artifacts
* Assists resource managers by providing input into employee evaluations for other technical staff.
* Assist the product owner/manager in identifying and prioritizing engineering tasks
* Work within an Agile team to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions across a full-stack of development tools and technologies
* Ensure new software meets quality standards utilizing Test Driven Development (TDD), writing unit and automated tests
* Gather requirements and suggest solutions; serve as an integrator between business needs and technology solutions
* Plan for and develop software that provides for the availability, resilience, and scalability of solutions
* Stay on top of technology trends, experiment with and learn new technologies, participate in internal & external technology communities, and mentor other members of the engineering community
* Meet with product customers, analyze needs and suggest solutions, with minimal supervision and review
* Collaborate with product development team to plan new features. Work cross functionally to resolve complex customer problems
* Responsible for managing and maintaining project and work backlog; able to re-prioritize tasks as the business deems appropriate
* Leverage multiple skillsets and work on multiple areas of product development including databases, API's, backend, UI, and analytics
* Provide production level support including on-call rotations
* Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree with coursework in computing information systems or related field and five years of progressively responsible computing experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform this role, including:

* Thorough knowledge of Information Technology concepts, systems, platforms, tools and technologies
* Strong understanding of software engineering principles and their applications
* Ability to work independently
* Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
* Ability to communicate (verbally and in writing) effectively
* Ability to provide high-quality customer service and maintain those standards for the area

Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:

* Work experience in a Higher Education setting
* Significant experience with one or more general purpose programming languages (C,C++, Java, Python, Ruby, etc.) and/or other object-oriented programming languages
* Experience with authoring API's based in REST, JSON and/or XML
* Knowledge of front-end technologies such as JavaScript, HTML5 and CSS3
* Knowledge and experience with Linux-based operating systems and scripting tools
* Experience with SQL/Relational database technology
* Experience working on an Agile development team
* Ability to identify, own, and solve problems independently or as part of a team
* Working knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, VM's and storage subsystems
