The Media Arts, Studies, and Sciences Department in the Roy H. Park School of Communications at Ithaca College (located in Ithaca, NY) invites applications for a tenure-eligible Assistant Professor position in Film and Video Production beginning in August 2019.

The Roy H. Park School of Communications at Ithaca College is acknowledged as one of the top comprehensive schools of communications in the nation, offering 10 undergraduate and 2 graduate degrees that enroll over 1800 students. Our more than 57 full-time and 20 part-time faculty are dedicated to teaching excellence but also maintain active profiles as scholars, media-makers, curators, consultants, and writers. Our facilities include two broadcast studios, a sound stage, state-of-the-art post-production systems, cameras and support ranging across 16mm and 4k cinema production; the facilities are supported by a professional staff of 16 engineers, technicians, and facility managers. Our school also offers semester-long programs centered on internships in Los Angeles and New York City and Ithaca College maintains a campus in London. The Park School embraces a philosophy of liberal arts education as the foundation for deep study of theory and practice that lead to immediate career-readiness in a constantly changing industry.

This position will serve two degree programs in Cinema: a B.S. in Cinema Production and a B.F.A. in Film, Photography and Visual Arts integrating both 16mm and digital formats.

The candidate will be expected to teach foundation level cinema production courses and there are opportunities to teach advanced cinema production courses related to one’s own creative practice and research. The annual teaching contract is 21 credits; there are opportunities to apply for re-assigned time programs to pursue specific professional and scholarly opportunities. Our faculty are expected to serve as an academic advisor to students and on department, school, and college committees.

Position/Job Qualifications

Required Qualifications

•M.F.A., M.A., or M.S. in Cinema Production or related field
•A recognized or growing profile as a filmmaker or industry professional with an intellectually and critically engaged moving image practice in the areas of non-fiction, fiction, or hybrid forms.

•Undergraduate teaching experience.

•Experience teaching both 16mm and digital formats.

•Demonstrable ability to practice inclusive teaching in media production in order to expose students to a wide array of media makers across gender, racial, economic, national domains. The candidate should be able to demonstrate the capacity to teach in innovative ways in order to meet the varied learning needs and interests of a culturally diverse student population.

Preferred Qualifications

•In-depth expertise and professional experience in cinematography and digital post-production workflows with a knowledge of analogue and digital acquisition formats.
