Programmer Analyst - University Information Systems (UIS)

Requirements

The Programmer Analyst - University Information Systems (UIS) is responsible for the analysis of University-wide information system requirements, development of specifications, both low- and high-level programming, and writing system documentation. Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Provide technical support for analysis, design, implementation, and maintenance of enterprise business applications (such as financial, employee, student, and administrative systems) and/or information access applications (groupware, forms automation, data warehouse and access tools).
  • Use operational and functional knowledge of all aspects of the application, including all external interactions and internal processes, to develop alternatives to customization of purchased system where possible, or to design and implement appropriate modifications where required.
  • Apply vendor maintenance, quality control management and oversight of change control processes, and analysis of requirements.
  • Assure the integrity of systems and standards in place, resolve and troubleshoot problems, as necessary, and serve as one method of support (in terms of institutional knowledge) for the operations division responsible for daily system functionality.
  • Provide well-written and complete user and technical documentation for system projects.
  • Provide training to IT staff and customers as appropriate.

Qualifications
  • BA/BS or other technical degree, plus 3 years of relevant experience in maintenance and design of relevant enterprise systems, preferably in a higher education environment.
  • Experience with appropriate enterprise systems (e.g., Ellucian Banner, Form Fusion, CoursEval, Ad Astra, Workflow, DegreeWorks, etc.).
  • Experience with environment and development tools appropriate to the system (e.g., Oracle, PL/SQL, Java, Control-M, Groovy/Grails).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of security and change control best practices for ensuring the appropriate protection of enterprise data and systems.
  • Ability to rapidly adapt to changing business requirements and to efficiently acquire and utilize new skills in response to such change

Preferred Qualifications:

For System Representatives
  • Act as application spokesperson and organizer who helps users define projects and priorities (including system upgrades and replacements), organizes and brings information to the group, represents user group interests and priorities during prioritization process, and keeps users apprised of project status.
  • Conduct periodic market research of comparable systems and stay abreast of changes in relevant technology.

For Project Leaders
  • Develop a project plan with specific, measurable deliverables and a timeframe for their completion.
  • Provide overall coordination for the planning and implementation of project deliverables. Provide regular status reports on project progress to managers, system representatives, and customers as appropriate.
  • Supervise the work of project team members as it relates to the project.
