Scope of Job:
To provide supervisory skills, leadership and advanced administrative skills for the development and promotion of training programs. Responsible for developing, conducting, coordinating, supervising and promoting a variety of training and communication programs designed to satisfy the training needs of University departments, offices or work units.

Description of Duties:
• Develops, coordinates and conducts special training courses and employee workshops.

• Plans, develops, organizes and monitors training courses conducted by campus departments and outside agencies.

• Advises departments on creating and revising training programs.

• Writes memos, reports and communiqués on training and development matters affecting personnel.

• Develops and trains specialists to conduct training programs.

• Acts as liaison between the University and outside training agencies, organizations and societies.

• Works with these groups to develop new training and development opportunities and to keep abreast of new developments in the training field.

• Reviews training courses, techniques and materials to determine effectiveness.

• Plans long-range training goals and objectives.

• Conducts training research and pilot programs.

• Maintains accurate records of training activities.

• May act as a consultant and resource person on policies and problems relating to training activities.

• Develops, coordinates and reviews communications for clarity and effectiveness.

• Development of online resources and web page maintenance.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervision Received:
General direction from the assigned supervisor.

Supervision Given:
Supervises assigned staff.

Required Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Business Administration, Personnel Management, Communication or related field from an accredited university.

Preferred Education:
Master’s degree in training related field.

Licenses/Certifications:
None.

Required Experience:
Three (3) years experience developing and conducting training programs.

Preferred Experience:
The above required experience in a University or institutional environment.

Equipment:
Standard office equipment.

Working Conditions:
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Usual office and classroom environment.

Other:
Ability to work evening and/or weekend hours. Occasional travel is required. Strong organization skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to create accurate memos, user documents, reports, and maintain training records. Ability to interact effectively with diverse faculty and staff populations. Must display excellent interpersonal, organizational, analytical, verbal, writing and public speaking skills.

A New University with a Long History

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 in a historic move that brings together the resources and assets of UT Brownsville and UT Pan American and, for the first time, makes it possible for residents of the Rio Grande Valley to benefit from the Permanent University Fund—a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and the Texas A&M University System.

 

Our new university will also be home to a School of Medicine and will transform Texas and the nation by becoming a leader in student success, teaching, research, and health care. UTRGV will enroll its first class in the fall of 2015, and the School of Medicine will open in 2016.

 

UT Brownsville and UT Pan American

The shared history of The University of Texas Pan American and The University of Texas at Brownsville goes back to 1927, when Edinburg College was founded. In 1973, Pan American opened a second campus in Brownsville, which later became an independent institution of The University of Texas System in 1991. Over the years, the missions and the identities of these great institutions have continually evolved to serve the communities of the Rio Grande Valley.

Now, the evolution and connection between these two institutions is coming full circle as UT Brownsville and UT Pan American are being established as a single, new university and medical school, with a single, new identity—The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
